The first 5 Doctors all had male "companions" The Third Doctor is a littler trickier but many fans consider Lethbridge-Stewart a companion

I always remember the little moments of this episode that stuck out like 11 being more aware of his presence and the strain it had put on other people's relationships in the past, the call back to the First Doctor's ID, Madam Calvierri's subtle reaction to learning he's from Gallifrey.

A shame this interesting ending was never connected to anything, as the silence was never shown to have any connection to anything like that.

He was a footballer until his career was ended by a developing issue of some kind. He also had some kind of leg injury during his time in Who. Capaldi later had the exact same injury!

That list of actors for the TV movie is pretty bogus. The newspapers used to run stories about casting a new Doctor pretty much continuously, and it was also a fairly random selection of frequent names (Rowan Atkinson, Eric Idle, Jim Broadbent) and fantasy-land casting (Harrison Ford, Russel Crowe, Jeff Goldblum). I'm faintly surprised that Joanna Lumley isn't also on that list, as that's another name that was forever being hyped by the tabloids as a contender for the rule. A lot of them did appear in the Moffat comedy skit 'Curse of the Fatal Death', as others have said - but that's because they were always being presented as possible doctor's and was a joke for that reason alone.

I think Jesse Eisenberg or Hugh Laurie would make a great Doctor. Someone younger I'd consider great as the Doctor would be Freddie Highmore.
