Probably my favourite Tennant episode

The scariest Doctor Who episode ever! Imagine how hard it was for the lady to memorize everyone's lines cause she repeats everything. Hoy vey.

Kaycee

Yes I love merlin. I hope yall watch it some day.

they have seen merlin!? thats awesome..!

Such an amazing episode. We finally see a situation where the Doctor lost against the monster, and good lord was it terrifying. Also, I liked how RTD shows both sides of humanity. Not just the good people that the Doctor meets who become heroes, but also the weak people who turn just as monstrous as the monsters themselves when confronted with something they don't understand.

Yas! My fave ep ever!!! And Colin Morgan my love!

This is how you do an episode when most of the seasons budget has been spent. Great reaction

Juliette

One of my favourite episodes. I think it does an amazing job of portraying panic and mob mentality. And such a creepy antagonist!

I'm glad they had the same outlook on this episode as me. lol

This episode is easily in my bottom 5 of all time. Such a terrible episode imo.

this episode is definitely in my top3 of DW! I love how they used the limited budget to their advantage here — there is no cgi-monster or difficult costume/make-up, no scenery or decorations needed (apart from like two scenes), just group of people in the confined space. and this claustrophobic vibe is so effective, I would like to think I’d stay calm and reasonable in such situation, but I understand their panic. There is nowhere to run or hide, so they’re forced to take action and make some decisions (although, clearly the wrong ones). Also, it’s a great stand alone episode, since you don’t really need any context to understand what’s going on. I introduced couple of people to DW via this one. The next episode, on the other hand... you need ALL the context you can think of! (Turn Left is my absolute favourite dw story; what a brilliant month it is/will be for DW and Torchwood)

Joe Entwistle

This is one of the best Doctor Who episodes, absolutely love it. Now for the finale 3-parter (sort of, if you include Turn Left)!

the actor with the glasses is the Son of Patrick Troughton, The Second Doctor.

Pretty polarizing episode for some reason. I think it's good, but it doesn't crack my top-10 or anything. It was a bottle episode and it handled itself pretty well as a bottle episode.

Martin Wiggan

the passengers are supposed to be unbearable

Anonymous

yes, Lesley Sharp is brilliant! now I really want to rewatch "Afterlife"

Anonymous

I LOVE this episode so much, because they did a lot with so little. And the tension is almost unbearable.

I always saw the people's behaviour as cabin fever, not the creature's doing

This was one of my fave episodes because of how it was all set in one space yet was so chilling! You guys should react to the series Inside No.9 at some point, whenever the next poll is up or something, it's really good at writing chilling plots based in a single space and i'd love to see you guys react to it!

Qrowe

They are fully aware. Aaron has seen through s9 and they're always well informed of things like that

Love this episode..this is a nod to the twilight zones "The monsters are due on Maple street". People tend to be like sheep and follow the safety in numbers or a leader that is in control when "paranoia" strikes. In the end when all control is lost they all start to blame each other because of paranoia! This episode is pure GENIUS! Some people of course don't get this episode because unlike me "the cleverest person in the room" they are not so enlightened. I have seen demons, aliens, gods and demigods...but the real reason you saw me afraid when I reunited with Donna was that I was afraid of the human race! Get it?...Now go and watch "The monsters are on Maple street". Seems...we are the monsters and someone has to rise up and save us from OURSELVES...or um...yourselves!! Also..look up a song called "witch hunt" by Rush. Good Time Lord music! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YzBvA2uEjUI

oh i really don't like this episode. i know a lot of other people like it but i just don't see the appeal

SuperTallBird

This was the first episode of Doctor Who that i ever saw. I watched it as a young teenager, and was terrified. I never wanted to watch Doctor Who again. I love it now.

Able

Disappointed with this reaction. “I would have committed mass murder because they were annoying me” “If you could kill any of them, who would it be?” I get that they were joking around and that the characters were being annoying but they missed the entire point of the episode. It was about how any group of normal people can descend into panic and chaos when scared and confused, ESPECIALLY when a mob mentality forms. They didn’t even try to look at it from their point of view. This shit happen s in real life to normal rational people. I GUARANTEE if Blindwave was in this situation Aaron would be yelling orders, Shane would be looking to start a fight, Calvin wouldn’t be saying or doing anything and Eric would be hurling out accusations when he wasn’t crying. It doesn’t matter how much TV and Movies you’ve seen, if you’re in that situation you’re most likely going to breakdown and do stupid shit.

This is a remarkable episide for me because it's one of, if not the only time where the Doctor couldn't talk or work out a solution. He was entirely helpless to a being he never understood in the first place.

CALVIN HAS THE SHIRT. THE AMAZING SHIRT

I can totally see why this is such a highly regarded episode. It does what it sets out to do very well. It's a great setting, script performance... I don't know why I don't like it, but I don't! Though it's certainly grown on me since my initial viewing. And I'll gladly admit that it's a very well-made episode. I think, most importantly, it shows why the Doctor needs a companion so often. Because here he's all on his own. And we see that sometimes it isn't enough to be the one who's clever, who knows. Because this is the Doctor *failing* to take command and be the leader of a small group of scared people, something he normally excels at. I think that's partially because he usually has a companion with him. Someone the other humans, or at least not Time Lord aliens, can relate to. Someone who can vouch for the Doctor and be on his side. Of course, this episode also makes a lot of comments about human nature, and panic and claustrophobia (it's an incredibly claustrophobic episode - maybe that's why I don't like it very much) - but I think that they maybe push a bit hard on the reactions these people have. Oh well, it gets the point across. I guess I just don't fall very hard for the "everyone is awful under pressure" episodes, even though I think there's a layer of truth to at least some of that. And it gets an extra point from me for having a Goblin Market quote in there. It's a great poem! Well, glad you enjoyed it! I was really looking forward to this episode despite it not being one of my favorites. I think it's great when Doctor Who can get to you like this. And the monster being unexplained in the end is probably my favorite thing about it. Looking forward to next week, as always.
