They don't have to redeem envy. Mustang could just let ed, Hawkeye or scar kill him instead since they aren't focused on their anger. Also, it was shown in episode 24 that envy can change its arms into blades and can turn into animals too

It’s always fun to see them get upset when the episode ends right when it’s getting to a great part. Welcome to what we all experienced when this show first came out.

I think the thing to keep in mind with Roy too is that he's already killed innocent people. He's already killed hundreds (at least) of innocent men, women, and children. He did so reluctantly, he feels guilt about it, but the fact remains that he killed them. He has already crossed MANY moral lines, things that he cannot come back from. As Calvin and Aaron point out, once you've done something, it is easier to justify it to yourself and do it again. So, having already killed innocent people, what happens when Roy crosses another line and uses his alchemy - what he vowed to use to protect people after Ishval - to slowly and painfully torture someone to death purely for his own satisfaction? He killed Lust as quickly as possible to save Al and Riza. The Promised Day is here, there are things they (and he) NEED to do in order to save thousands, and Roy is dragging out his torture of Envy as long as possible because it feels good to make Envy hurt. This is the same Roy who said after Ishval that he would do everything to protect the people he loves, to encourage others to protect each other...choosing to leave his bodyguard behind, then stay back and cause as much pain as possible to a creature he could have dispatched within seconds, no matter the consequences to himself or those he cares about.

Fuck I love mustang so much. His lines this episode were godlike.

A wonderful breakdown of Roy's motivations and character!

In the 2003 anime, Envy is absolutely 100% male. In this version they change the origin of all the Homunculi so that may not necessarily be the case. BUT he has the same look, same voice, and same personality, all the other characters in the English call him by male pronouns, and in the Japanese he uses the word "boku" to describe himself, which isn't necessarily masculine but definitely implies masculine traits. On the other hand, he is a shape shifter whose true form is a genderless worm. So, yeah, Envy is definitely a "he", but you could make an argument for "it" or "they". But Envy absolutely is NOT a "she".

It was the 2003 anime that changed the origin of the Homunculi. Brotherhood used the original versions.

Envy could have been redeemable but there’s that one point: he still killed Hughes. For me, Hughes’ death was traumatic. I still remember sobbing uncontrollably the first time it happened. Like with Mustang, this is personal and I’m glad he’s barbecuing the fuck outa Envy.

Calvin's face when the episode ended was so funny xD

This moment of revelation to Mustang always breaks my heart, because he doesn't know, like we do, what really happened. With how Envy explains it here, it seems like Hughes died, thinking his wife had killed him, the person that he trusted and loved most, the thought of which brought him through a war. Mustang doesn't know Hughes knew that it wasn't his wife. I think that this is another thing that breaks Mustang into using such violence.

I love how angry they get every time an episode ends. I think that, more than anything else, shows how much they're enjoying this.
