Can't believe Torchwood season 1 has nearly wrapped up, loved the reaction series guys

Eric! Torchwood would have been "Started" in the 1800's, more specifically between 1861 after the death of Prince Albert, but prior to Queen Victoria's death in 1901... So somewhere between 1862(?)-1890(?), giving her enough time to 'establish' Torchwood prior to her death.

Eric saw the doctor who episode "tooth and claw" the "werewolf" one where Queen Victoria comes up with the idea for the Torchwood which is set in 1879.

Glad you guys noticed the 'Vote Saxon' poster, was hoping you'd make that connection (however you missed the 'Bad Wolf' graffiti). The name Saxon however has been seen in Doctor who since the season 2 episode 'Love and Monsters' where the name appeared in a newspaper being read by the Abzorbaloff. Then during 'The Runaway Bride' when the tanks roll up to destroy the Racnoss ship, one of the army dudes says "Orders from Mr Saxon, fire!"

Such a great discussion on Sexuality guy, Kudos. Much better than the discussion in 1x1. The UK is a lot more liberal on sex and what it shows on tv and Captain Jack Harkness was a big landmark for the LGBTQ community in television.

does anybody know what we are getting the week after 1x13? since they can’t start series 2 without finishing the Doctor Who first.

Anonymous

Yeah I agree they should do something different for a week or two after End of Days next week so they can start season 2 after watching Last of the Time Lords to keep the continuity more fluid

As someone who has seen quite a lot of foreign films, and gay cinema. I can say they are quite open in different places and it is way different from a lot of movies here. I actually thought the scene in American gods was very tastefully done, and beautiful to watch. So is the way Jacks character is. He is just himself with no apologies. Great work guys.

The show runner for both Doctor who and TW, Russell T Davies is also gay and has been a massive influence for the LGBT community since he started is work on writing and television and has been winning multiple awards since, plus his co-runner for doctor who and torchwood, Chris Chibnall (he also done broadchurch) is now taking over from Moffat, a welcome change if you ask me

"Jack and Ianto bang?" That's what we've been (figuratively) screaming about in the comments under "They keep killing Suzie" :) It is an important plot point and it explains the power struggle Ianto and Owen had in this episode. Owen thinks that Ianto puts himself above everybody else just because Jack's fucking him on the side, but Ianto actually has some of Jack's trust (it cuts to Ianto's reaction right after Owen reads the words "Rhea Silva" and from it it is safe to assume that Ianto knew the code). And because of that trust he knows that protecting the Rift is more important than getting Tosh and Jack back to the current time, although he's already developing the feelings for the Captain (that is where "I let Lisa go" and "Jack needs me" come from). Also, I guess Calvin is thinking about something else, because we haven't seen any coffee-related sex scene between Jack and Ianto. The one we were heavily hinted at featured the stopwatch :D

As for original Jack's part of the episode — it was just beautiful. Great reaction and discussion on that part, guys! As you've discussed the parallel between Jack and Tosh feeling isolated, etc., it is interesting to note that the writers treat Tosh's nationatily without blantness or unnecessary attention, same as characters' sexuality (we need to remember that Jack (both of them) is not the only non-straight guy in the team, Ianto, Tosh and Owen are canonicly bi). It was never mentioned before, as I remember, but it makes perfect sense that she's talking to her relatives in Japanese. And it makes perfect sense for it to be an issue in the WWII times when Japan was Germany's ally. So glad she is not "a token asian character", but her own person (the loveliest one imaginable) with hopes and struggles.

Loved RTD, Moffatt was hit and miss, Chibnall is a fucking hack. The DW episodes he penned are awful.
