It's time for the Valentines day stream! So lets watch a bunch of good / bad / weird love stories! Some of which will surely stretch that definition! But oh well!

The stream will be RIGHT NOW - Friday, February 10th, starting at 1030am pacific time.

As always it will be on twitch https://www.twitch.tv/filmcrithulk

Note: LINE-UP always subject to change, but this time especially because I think sourcing one of the secrets may be really hard and also because my current cursed sleep schedule may make it hard to stay up that late. So I'm programming THREE secrets and may cut one!

UPDATE: Sorry I had to cut one but it will still be fun!

To the line-up!

1030am - Preroll (this time with its own mini secret screening)

1100am - The Lady Eve (1941) - I swear, but the next year we will soon have watched all the major Preston Sturges and Ernst Lubitsch Movies (they're just my faves) and make for great community watches. Get ready to see a man-eating Barbara Stanwyck spit fire and Henry Fonda play the squarest rube. It's perfect.

1235p - Defending Your Life - Albert Brooks is a really interesting figure. For like a couple decades there his films were peak zeitgeist (and in many ways, still have massive resonance), but I find it so interesting to re-watch his work these days. Anyway, get ready to see one of my favorite "heaven is real and not what you think" movies - and what is also probably the single biggest influence on The Good Place.

230p - Clueless - AS IF I wouldn't show this movie at some point!

410p - Bull Durham - First time watchers, get ready to suddenly "get" the massive sex appeal of Kevin Costner, Susan Sarandon, and a young Tim Robbins. Arguably one of the best sports movies and I sit down to watch random clips all the time, but I haven't had a full proper watch in ages (which means I'm ready to see elements that have dated). Can't wait.

600p - The Wedding Banquet - Back in the food marathon Eat Drink Man Woman proved to be such a hit I thought it would be fun to show Ang Lee's OTHER early Taiwanese banger and a landmark entry in queer cinema.

750p - Design for Living (1933) - Yup. Another Lubitsch. But I was watching clips and was like FUCK IT, I can't not show this film. I will spoil nothing. Let's just say that everyone always says this movie was "ahead of its time," but really that just means it was having fun with stuff people never talked about. I think this is one of the dirtiest subtext movies ever and something that helped give ammo for staring the Hays Code. If that doesn't sell you I don't know what will.

925p - Harold and Maude - He's 19! She's 79! How will they make it work!?!? I genuinely wonder how twitter and the age gap discourse would react if this weirdly seminal Hal Ashby film was coming out now (but shhhhh its all a metaphor). Anyway, can't wait for first timers.

1100p - Secret Screening #1 - It is very mean of me to include this one in the theme and no one spoil when it starts, but IYKYK.

100a - Secret Screening #2 - It is very absurd of me to include this one in the stream and it will be evident the second it starts.

Anyway, Happy February!

They were Oldboy and Mother, May I Sleep With Danger (the '90s original, not the remake).

Great being here for the first three movies! Plus I left the stream on mute and lurked for Harold and Maude before going to bed, so it was fun seeing what I'd forgotten. Also it occurred to me while watching that there's a light novel called "Choppiri Toshiue demo Kanojo ni Shite Kuremasu ka?" or "Are You Okay With a Slightly Older Girlfriend?" (he's 15, she's 27), and that'd be a pretty good alternate title for H&M.
