Hey y'all, Update time!

I'm working on two regular hulk-style essays (one on M. Night Shyamalan, the other character behavior in movies). But I had two queries of note! First off, I'm going to be doing the usual anime poll, but I need a little help in coming up with the selection beforehand.

Because I want to watch something TRASHY. Like, straight fuckin' trash. Don't matter what kind, movies or TV [to re-iterate this is for the ANIME Poll]. Recommend high trash, low trash, messed up trash. I'm just really in the mood to write about something stupid, weird, or even semi-offensive. So please sound off below!

The second thing is that I wanted to talk about a request I get asked a lot which is whenever I watch a given property and that's folks telling me I should read the corresponding manga. In theory, of course this makes sense! And would be good for me to do! Especially in going to the origin point and understanding an author's intentions. But there's a two fold hiccup. The first is how little time I have for consuming stuff and thus I gotta keep time concentrated on movies / tv- particularly getting to as many new things as possible out there.

The second is sort of philosophical, because I feel like the "have you read the manga?" mantra and the ensuing conversation of adaption really dominates the larger critical discourse with so, so, so many pieces of work I've come across. Again, I know it makes sense to engage that way. But I really think there's a ton of value in avoiding it- and just really just zooming in on the media piece itself and apply all those same larger question of "why," regardless of where it may have come from, ya know?

Anywho, looking forward to the recs :)

When is the poll going up?

I dunno if this counts as trash but a lot of people see it as a purely superficial and childish show. Gurren Lagann. Not based on a manga, totally original 27 episode anime, and the antithesis of Evangelion
