Hey yall! I'm still hard at work on the big two big ass columns (French Dispatch and year end list), but I wanted to get another twitch stream in for this month, particularly because the last one was raided by the fuzz!!! I mean, we never found out what happened to Frankenhooker!!!

Anyway, for this month's theme I was futzing around with lots of ideas ideas, but since it's Oscar weekend I decided to go in the opposite direction and showcase some of my favorite "bad" movies. Which really aren't bad at all. They're actually great in their own ways! They just aren't Oscar-friendly. But honestly, I think they will make for a much more joyous experience in the chat when compared to anything more prestigious.

In that spirit, we'll call them the "Non-Nominateables."

The stream will be this Friday at 2pm pacific time and run deep into the night (for those of you around the world, you can tune in whenever). And it will all be happening over on https://www.twitch.tv/filmcrithulk

To the lineup! Which can change, but again, all times pacific!

2pm - Brief Pre-Show

210pm - Reefer Madness - I almost don't want to even explain this one. If you don't know what it is, you're in for a treat.

320pm - Spiceworld - Um, this movie is GOOD, ACTUALLY. Which is to say it's a surprisingly joyful and batshit sketch-like movie in the tradition of A Hard Day's Night, similarly starring the global pop sensations that are The Spice Girls. Get ready to feel like time travel to the late 90's!

5pm - Batman & Robin - Ahh, the movie that killed the initial Batman run and gave rise to all that we know now. The whole thing is that you have to accept that this wonky film is, top to a bottom, one giant dad joke. That's what it is. And when you accept that, it's fun to watch!

705 pm - Pee Wee's Big Adventure - I feel bad including it with this list because it's legitimately a stone cold classic that EVERYONE fucking loves. Like there's no ambiguity here. Tim Burton's debut is a great film. But the thing is that I heard people talking about it recently and it's been years since I've seen, so I selfishly want to watch it! ESPECIALLY with people who've never seen it before!!!

840pm - Deep Blue Sea - To the initiated, this Renny Harlin Masterpiece needs no introduction. To those who have never seen it before? I'm jealous. Get ready for a movie that behaves like its opposite day.

1030pm - The Happening - Okay, here's the thing. This M. Night movie obviously does not work. But the ways it doesn't work are FASCINATING. It may be one of the most bizarre things I've ever seen in terms of little choices, particularly with performances. We must honor it accordingly.

Midnight - Secret Screening! A movie I haven't seen since I was kid! Let's see how it goes!

155am - Secret Screening #2! A film I have unfortunately seen period!

Which is to say, can't wait.

I haven't seen Spice World since the 90s. Really curious to see why this movie got reappraised as decent.

4:00 my time, candle-lighting at 7:17, chores to be done beforehand… hope I'll at least be able to make it to Reefer Madness? It's a shame since this sounds like a REALLY neat lineup, and the only one I've seen is Batman & Robin -- which, in a way, is the one I'd most like to be there for. I spent way too much of the late 2000s, when everyone online was talking about how ~obviously terrible~ it was for anyone with even the slightest ability to tell good movies from bad, being ashamed of having liked it just fine when I saw it in the theater at the age of 9. It'd be neat to finally revisit it with a friendly audience. (Knowing you, I'd half-expect either Your Highness or Cats to be one of the secret screenings, but neither seems to quite fit the descriptions.)
