Off By One (Patreon)

I had a reason to come back to this story I wrote over a year ago. There are a lot of different ideas on what demons, evil spirits, and the like actually want to achieve, which of course is important if you want to construct an intention-based story. I read an old transgender transformation story long ago where they summoned something and learned they fed of chaos. I think that is the best way to look at it. The more entropy they can inject in reality the better. So doing good or evil doesn't really matter, as long as it causes a lot of ripples. This is what I like about this story, that the Devil is giving him everything he wished for, and he creates a massive wake of stirred up emotions. Jealousy, desire, heartbreak.

I do wish I've realized at the time I wrote it, to keep with the theme, that this was a one-off, and end the story with that. The devil can't be doing this all the time, or it wouldn't create as much of a stir.
