I've already done some stories involving possession that have the protagonist switch in and out of agency, like Bloody Marie and Possessive. This one was more of a dual personality, as the text says multiple times. The origin for this story was the suggestion "A were-redneck where dirty redneck clothes grow on you once a month as you transform".

I'm not a fan of magically growing clothes, or even magically growing muscles. My intention from the start with this story was that it would purely be a mental battle between two co-inhabitants of the body that take turns, having it unequal amounts of time. The redneck person resents the metropolitan person for all the time he gets to spent in the body, and how he spoils it on sitting in meetings and working on a computer. The ad agency person is equally disgusted with the crude redneck person that fucks up his life once a month.

While the ad persona tries to hick-proof his life. Locking up stuff. Hiding stuff. Putting limits on cards etc, the redneck person is more and more determined to show his other self who is really controlling their life. New clothes, new haircut, registered gun owner, registered Trump supporter, big long horn tattoo on the back. Those kind of things. Any physical change would happen slowly over the story.

Unfortunately the photo I found was such a good one I decided to jerk the story forward with a bit of magic, and to not drag it out a year. Each transformation takes a lot of text, so then the story would have to jump into more of a narrative mode giving examples of all the things that happened during the year. For that to work there would have to be a bigger payoff when the story actually slows down. I felt they way I wrote this story was a good compromise.
