so the story goes that Isayama got the idea because when he was a teenager he used to work at a cafe and had a bad interaction with a drunken customer. he was super fascinated with how scary it is dealing with a human that you can’t understand. and i think he used to live in a small town that was surrounded by mountains and used to always feel trapped or walled in by them.

One of the biggest changes in the anime is Annie being knocked out cold from Reiner choking her until being inside the walls. In the manga, she agrees to continue the mission after Reiner chokes her out and is reason the 3 get to the wall. She also used her scream to lure titans to the wall minutes before Bertholdt kicked the gate. She ends up passing out from exhaustion because the original plan was for her and Marcel to split the carrying of the other warriors.

To try and answer some questions at the start regarding the author, I saw in an interview where the author, Isayama , was asked what first inspired him to write this story and he said that he grew up in a town that was surrounded by mountains and as a kid he would imagine there were giants on the other side peaking over looking down at him. Which to me sounds a lot like that first scene of the colossal titan peaking over the wall into shiganshina. Also I believe he was 19 when he first wrote the one shot concept story that would become aot, and he finished writing when he was around 34 I think.

With regards to why they didn't transform immediately after Ymir ate Marcel, Reiner was still brooding about what Marcel had said, and he was so confused about not being the original choice that he couldn't think properly and instead chose to run away (also, he is a kid and was caught by surprise). Bertholdt's personality has been shown to be docile and not take initiative (multiple times during seasons 1, 2 and 3), hence it makes sense that he would also follow Reiner's cue. Annie, well, she could have transformed had the other two been there, but I think seeing them run away and watch their leader Marcel get eaten, I can see how she too must have lost her will! Also - while it was not properly explained in the episode, Annie has been scouting the inner cities to find the Founding titan/royal family (given that the king was a fake king). Kenny, we know, was Reiss family's thug/bodyguard. So, the fact that she reached him meant she was almost on the verge of discovering the royal family, but Kenny Ackermann was also on her tail as we saw in the little exchange between them. Given what a beast Kenny is, no wonder Annie reached her 'limit'! Kudos to Carter for catching the story that the old man told the trio which Bert told Eren and Armin! Such little details and dots connected!

I like how this episode really shows that Reiner has struggled with identity issues his entire life.. eldian but wished he was marleyan.. wasn't supposed to be a warrior despite being chosen. Saying Reiner is dead and he'll be marcel. Then in the walls between being a scout and a warrior. No wonder it all got to his head in the end. He's definitely one of the more interesting characters in the show and my personal favorite.

God I hate the "he could have totally...", "Why didn't he just...". You could blame it on lazy writing for sure, but expecting characters to always do the right thing is silly. Note, that scene where Marcel gets eaten is clearly in slow-mo, hard to tell how fast that went by. Also, they are still kids in unknown territory and despite being trained, they never faced dumb titans. We see shifters from Marley using knives quite a lot so self injury through biting might not be a reflex for these kids either. Anyway, all of that to say that this scene was fine.

I’m surprised they’re hating on Annie so much this episode. Reiner is definitely a complicated character, but Annie was undoubtedly the only sensible one throughout all of this. Reiner tacitly acknowledges this fact as he’s driven to the point of almost taking his life with all that guilt and conflict he feels from that decision to stay in Paradis. Had they listened to Annie in the first place, the arc of this show likely would have never been possible, and they could have saved a lot of lives.

Yeah I didn’t really see what they were going on about with Annie either, like you can clearly see Annie was thinking straight but Reiner didn’t want to listen to her. Once they managed to sneak in, Annie was the one putting in most of the work and effort to try and complete their mission so she could get back home faster cause she didn’t wanna be there, while Reiner was too busy trying to forget all the stuff that just went down with Marcel and not really doing anything while they were training in the cadets. Just basically mucking around. All he did was order Annie and Bert around most of the time while trying to impersonate Marcel. Like how can you not see the way he was trying to control them if they didn’t do as he says. Reiner was basically putting all the workload on them ( mostly Annie ) while he just wanted to feel like HE was in-control/in-charge of things. When in reality he’s just a coward

1. Bertholdt didnt explode at wall Maria to not expose the titans in the wall. 2. Dina is an abnormal, which means her actions are unpredictable. 3. Annie was the only one that was making sense. This whole episode was to show that Reiner’s decision was the wrong one. It was the start of the chain reaction. He almost kills himself because of the guilt he feels, and it literally gives him split identity disorder.

I can see where you're coming from. I don't dwell too much on What ifs because I'm not the one telling the story. It does take a little bit away from the experience because you personally wanted a different outcome. It's sort of like an amusement park ride. I buckle in and let the creator take me along his ride. I'm going to enjoy it or not or be somewhere in the middle. I'm free to judge, make criticisms, pick apart and analyze the good and bad parts. If I lean into the hypotheticals, I'm just creating my own head canon and I won't be satisfied with the end result.

The mindless titans draw energy from the sun to move around, but they don't die without it. But the sun doesn't affect the nine titans.There are times they've healed without direct sunlight like the easter egg in season 1 where Erens head is steaming(they're indoors) and in 4x5 when Eren heals his leg in front of Reiner. The healing powers is something they can control and turn on/off. Also the whole fight in Marley takes place at night so you can see the sun isn't something the titan shifters need to worry about

I think Bert's "bomb" ability is something he can control. He can choose to do a transformation without an explosion, or a massive one. That's the only way it makes sense that he didn't do so in episode 1. To your point Carter

I don't think Dina is abnormal, just royal. "Abnormal" to me means they are controlled by another Titan shifter. Almost every abnormal we've seen has been one of Zeke's titans. The others...it's kind of spoilery to say more.

the jumping titan that ate thomas was an abnormal..... zeke was nowhere near there by then... and also several other abnormals that were present before zeke came to paradis. abnormal is what they call any titan that doesnt have typical characteristics to the large majority of the rest. not necessarily all titans turned by zeke

Dunno what you guys are on about Annie was being the most rational and doing the most work in the walls even almost reaching the real Royal Family. Hell, Annie's reveal was made after she made an attempt to steal Eren while Reiner's reveal was because he couldn't anymore with the split personality. That being said I absolutely love Reiner's character 100x more but that IS because of how much of an all-over-the-place person he is.

In his blog, he said Armin reminds him of his friend. When they were children they used to say that when they grow up they will buy everything they can't buy now since they didn't have money. Once they grew up, his friend kept his promise and would get excited to show him what new things he bought. I don't know if someone said this but Annie was conscious actually. In the manga, she used her power to gather the titans in front of the wall as she did in s1 when she made the titans eat her. Unfortunately, they cut it out in the anime which resulted in many people thinking she was unconscious.

I think concepts and themes are the first things that he thought When he started. He writes stories based on themes It has so much payoff I think he wrote ss4 first Story in ss1-3 are so well thought out, well executed and detailed. Without these political warfare setting and stories line in ss4 it is still a really strong series. He can write compelling story without a lot of world building.

I think u guys should post part 3 when it comes out even if u aren’t caught up on uploads. Just put a big warning at the beginning of the video & explain that u are caught up with watching, some ppl might think u are skipping ahead without watching previous episodes. U will get more views if it’s uploaded the day it comes out & i’m sure the majority of your viewers have already watched the rest of season 4. I saw a comment saying it would be greedy to do that? No they literally just want to be there in real time with the community. Also, they will get so many new subscribers and views if they upload it closer to the episode air date which is good!! I thought about watching it with them in real time but I'd rather watch it in chronological order. That's what I've done with all my favourite reaction channels. For other reactors, I would skip several episodes and just jump to the good parts. I want to have a better sense of their thoughts, feelings, and theories leading up to part 3 because there would be a large gap in-between. So there would be a lot of information missing. Who's right or wrong? Who's side are they on? Are they for or against Eren? For Zeke? Does Cannon have any more wild theories under his belt? How will the other 3 react when they're watching this on their (2nd or 3rd) watch through? Will Brig get strike 3 on spoilers?

I remembered something. You know that song when Reiner & Bertholdt transformed? There was a line "old man please, remember me." We think it's the same man that told Bertholdt & Reiner about his story before hanging himself. It's crazy because I believe when the song came out, the manga didn't reach this point of the story yet! That's why some people believe that Isayama gives 'hints/ insights' to the people who write these songs.

They all seem to really like Season 4, the others have said stuff like “i cant believe we’re finally here this is what ive been waiting for” a lot, so it’s probably just their way of sharing their excitement with them.

When he came to NYC he literally had to put out a statement asking aot fans to be kind to him bc some ppl didn’t like the ending (I thought the ending was really good tbh). My issue is not about theorizing. It's about the expectations of characters in shows to always act flawlessly and if they don't, just concluding that "it makes no sense". This is a reccuring issue that a lot of people have and as Jeffrey said, it just ends up taking away from the experience to hold onto these non realistic expectations. Anyway, my point is : stop expecting chartacters to always do the right things, nobody does, not even yourself. And when they don't, at least try to put yourself in the characters shoes first before complaining about the writing. Colossal Titan can control its energy output. This is what allowed Bert to not destroy a large portion of the walls when it originally showed up, which is important because he doesn't want to release any Titans inside the walls, and lets the Colossal not be a complete double-edged sword that would be impossible to use in friendly territory.

Armin may or may be unable to control the energy output, but that's on Armin. The Colossal Titan itself is able to control its energy output. Again, look at all Bert transformations. Now, I think you simply misunderstand what Armin meant, however. He is unable to control the energy output of a sixty-meter-Titan from affecting those in a cell a few feet away from him. The Colossal Titan is still really freaking big. It can't come out with NO energy output whatsoever. For your later questions, the Colossal body doesn't degenerate like other bodies because again, that's part of the energy control the Colossal is capable of. Why Dina does not eat Bert...I can't answer that. Because those are manga spoilers. All I can promise you is that it's not a continuation error and will be addressed before the show ends.

To answer your question about how long it took him to write the story, Hajime Isayama apparently started writing the manga when he was 19, and he was 34 when the manga finished in 2021, so 15 years since around 2006!
