This conversation between Erwin and Levi actually goes way differently in the manga. He isn't cold at all. Here is what Erwin said to Levi when Levi tries to kill him and Erwin is holding the blade with his bare hand: “Who was it who killed my subordinates? Killed your friends? Was it me? Or was it you? […] It’s the titans. Where did they come from? Why do they exist? Why do they kill humans? I don’t have the answers. None of us do. Limited by our ignorance, we’ll continue to be devoured by the titans! If we just stay shut behind the walls, we are never going to escape this nightmare. Take a good look around you! No matter how far you go, there aren’t any walls here. In this open space, I believe there is something there, illuminating our despair. But there are those who seek to prevent us from venturing beyond the walls. They are consumed by selfish thoughts of their own losses and gains from behind the walls where they are safe! It’s only natural. During the past 100 years, hindered by the walls, the eyes of humanity have been clouded. They cannot see the landscape that lies on the other side. But what about you, Levi? He wants to see the same light that Erwin sees at the end of the tunnel. Maybe it's an exit. Maybe it's just a blaze of harsh flames ready to incinerate them. Either way, Levi is going forward. I agree. I don’t like how they made Erwin kinda a d!ck at the ending. He just says “Get up!”. What he says in the manga is way better and it provides inspiration for Levi to join the Scouts

I never realized how driven Erwin was with his to explore outside the walls and learn more about the titans to preserve humanity. He does kind of me of Eren's ambition to exterminate titans. I've forgotten how much this episode not only provides more information about Levi's backstory but Erwin's as well. We know Eren's source of motivation, so the question is, what motivates Erwin to save humanity from the titans?

Look, I get why people like this OVA but it's not the backstory the author intended for Levi. Oh, and it's Ymir in the intro song, she wears gloves like that at some point.

This was my first time watching this episode, and Levi's screams while he is destroying that titan hits so darn hard. I'm glad I got to watch along with you guys. It made the scene a little easier to watch cause it didn't feel like I was watching it alone.

The Author worked with the team producing the Anime in order to make improvements on the story. I understand he didn’t write No Regrets, but it is actually referenced later on in the show, so it’s at least canon to the anime.

Fair enough, but out of the OVAs he's never acknowledged No Regrets as canon. The anime is different to the manga in many ways so while I think this fucks with Levi's character I accept that he isn't the exact same character in the anime as in the manga. I do think Levi’s motivation is supposed to have a lot more to do with a certain thug (no names, no spoilers) than this OVA lets you believe though.

The only other OVA’s I recommend is the Mikasa one “Lost in the Cruel World” that came out between 49-50. It’s a little complicated but is very weird but I love it

The full song is like 60% german and 40% english, but they only used the german parts in No Regrets.
