As you may know the show is based on the first six novels of a book series by S. A. Corey (the pseudonym for the author duo Ty Frank and Daniel Abraham) but there is also a collection of short stories and novellas and they´ve taken a few of them and incorporated them in to the show. The story about Solomon Epstein (Drive) is the first in the collection and one of three which take place before the main storyline (the other is the origin story of Fred Johnson "The butcher of Anderson Station" and "The Churn" about how Amos endet up in space) and is kinda the origin story of how mars became independent from earth but also the explanation how humans came to colonize the belt and the moons of jupiter and saturn using the epstein drive he created. The short story is a bit longer and tells more about live in the little far away colony on mars and about how he met Caty and it is kinda beautiful but also terribly sad and lonely at the same time. If you ever want to check out the books (they are a bi different but its one of the best adaptations i have seen) i higly recommend also reading the short stories. love your reactions by the way!
