First off - you're welcome for the suggestion and thank you, it did make it easier to make sure I was in sync. If I might offer another suggestion... maybe a space heater lol ;-) Second, I love love love this episode. ALL THE TENSION. The pacing, the way it was shot - as you pointed out we get the TV in the background... just relentless tension the entire way. You noticed the passing of time in the diner - in the comic it's explicit that this story takes place over 24 hours. It's also much busier, with many more people involved. But this was a great adaptation for television - it maintains the tension and the terror, introducing just enough people and stories to make it work without being overwhelming. My favorite adaptation of this story, though, is the audiobook. All the Sandman audiobooks are outstanding (Neil Gaiman narrates, Dream is played by James McAvoy, and the entire cast is just brilliant), but that particular chapter was a masterpiece. It manages to find that perfect line you get in all the best horror films where it leaves just enough to the imagination... Anyway, I think you're 100% right about nuance when it comes to the truth. I agree we really must be completely honest with ourselves - we owe it to ourselves. And that being an honest person is important, but there are lies and there are LIES, and one has to know the difference. And yeah, John had lost sight of that distinction long ago. Not gonna say anything about who that was at the end, because I never like to reveal spoilers. Meanwhile I can't wait for you to see the next episode - I love it SO MUCH. And I know arguably even saying that could be construed as a spoiler because of the expectation that it sets, but I can't help it sorry - I won't do it again.
