I mean, at least he’s not acting like Surge should just get over his damage and wall himself off too.

I'm catching up on comments so ssssorry for the spam! Knowing that Surge was the one having the nightmare, I wonder how Giovanni himself remembers the same events. Has he "corrected" his memory to make himself more hard and detached. And how does he view this present moment. He didn't have to reach out to Surge and invite him over, or let him stay, or try to help him through his unhappy moods. Does he consider this an exception because he's also hoping to get something out of Surge at the end. (These are just rhetorical questions, so don't feel like you need to answer any of them!)

I was thinking of it kinda like, he doesn’t want to see a person he respects just roll over and give up. Like, he’s kind of a misanthropic guy who doesn’t like very many people, so seeing someone in his inner circle in this state is something he feels motivated to take action over (hence the whole “I don’t like to hear people speak about my friends this way” thing re: Surge putting himself down). If anything, I think he’s kind of irritated Surge didn’t reach out first; like he should be using every resource at his disposal to fight out of this slump. If I get the chance to do the second chapter of this I have planned, I really want to hammer home that “giving up” is a real sore spot for him.
