As I said in my previous post. I'm proposing an alternate method to tell stories. Rather then using text over images, I'm proposing to use those images and use them for a VN game format.

This demo is meant to show you what you could expect.

Link is bellow. Be sure to download it and give it a try.

Be assured that I have not taken any decisions on changing the format yet.

I will put up a poll tomorrow so that you guys can vote if you want to keep the old story telling style or if you like this better.

I cannot do both however so you will have to decide.

Note: If some of you can't run the app. Worry not, I'm going to figure out how to make a Web-browser version of the game soon. So all you will need to run the VN game is an internet connection.

Enjoy the demo.

how do u run the material? i downloaded it but dont know which kind of program to use.

Avendia

totaly YES !!!

TonkatsuCHAN

You should not have to use a specific program. The program is what you downloaded. Are you on windows or Mac? I just added a MAC version just in case. If you are on Mac, then the first link you downloaded won't work because that is the Windows version. So If you have Mac, download the Mac version and try it. But you should not have to download any other extra programs to run it. As long as your computer or Mac is compatible.

Anya Rose

i have windows, but i downloaded it, unziped it, then tried to click on something but asks me which program should i pick to run any of it. i have piced quite a few and nothing runs it.

TonkatsuCHAN

OK so it's an issue on your side. But don't worry, I'm going to find a way to make a browser version as well. So all you will need to do it open the game on a webpage and you will be good to go. I just need to figure out how and where to host that page. But I will figure it out. So don't worry, you will have a version that works eventually once I get the browser version figured out.

Re-Maker

Well... that was pretty fun. If there's any downside to this format, I don't see it

Ross Kirkland

I really like the VN format it looks great.

athroughzdude

I'm wondering if this would take longer since you need to program the events and actions into a game rather than creating the images and then writing the actions out in between.

TonkatsuCHAN

Actually not so much. Visual novel are very basic to code. Its not more complicated to put this together then the usual text over image versions. In fact it’s a bit easier in some regards because of how flexible it is. In the traditional way i m limited in text page on each page, here not so much since it scrolls down. For reference I made this in about 3-4 hours. (Putting the demo together).

I have to say, whatever system you're using, the options are bare bones and somewhat glitchy. I'd say to try using something like Ren'py, which can run on anything including mobile phones.

lee jones

in response to your earlier comment is mulitple endings etc something youd be able to try as that would be awesome, i know it would take a while, i dunno bout others but id be willing to cintribute more to help if that could be a possibility

ben4321

I wanted to ask, because it is a game, is there the possibility of a translation?

TonkatsuCHAN

It would help to know more in detail what you find glitchy and limited. Would try to see if it can be adresses but this is really vague. I use Tyranobuilder. Sure not the most advanced engine but it does the trick. Bare in mind that while I m using the engine to create more interacting stories, I am not making a fully functional VN game here. I’m just using the engine to spice things up, so don’t expect a fully super detailed VN. That can’t be done once a month. So even if I can try to look into some of your issues with it. Don’t expect a full fledged VN. As for playing on mobile. I can make mobile versions for Android and iOS. My plan is to host the games on browser hosts so that you can play it on what ever you want easy peasy. But don’t expect me to change to Ren’py. I know Tyrano is not as great as Ren’py but it does the job. Like most prefer games made on unreal rather then unity. But unity is a bit more accessible. Same thing for me with Tyrano. That said, I can try to look into your issues with it but don’t expect me to change engine.

I think endings that don’t require insane variations (say totally different images) are doable sometimes. Think something like drugging the victim to turn her into a slut who enjoys it. As opposed of her being full of fear. Or something like electrocution. You can choose to use it or not and it has multiple settings. If you electrocute the victim enough. Her mind breaks. It would not require drastic image variations but change the flow of the story

Spicy-Tacos

That was interesting. There were parts I liked about it, but I still enjoy the regular image sets. I don't know which I'll be voting for. If the VN option wins, will we get the April story as a VN? For the image sets released with it, how will variants work? Would we get all the possible variants that appear in the story or would the amount be cut down?

Amyphist

Cute demo. I thought I would prefer the image sets, but the fact that the VN games would apparently come with the images available to download separately might be enough to persuade me to back that option...

Azure

I like it! It works well, conveys the same style you were doing but also adds just a touch more immesion in both us interacting as well as the sounds and music. Definitely gonna vote yes to VN. Though I had one question not answered there. On Multiple choice/partial influence, will we get the option to vote for more influence or multiple endings before it comes out?

TonkatsuCHAN

Yeah don't worry. Though you wont have text, the images themselves will still be available in a separate folder. So you don't have to play the game enjoy the images.

TonkatsuCHAN

I will say no for now. But will think about it. I first want to test the waters with this and will see how we can progress in the future.

Zakuzelo

Meh. It's not nice, but not really necessary. A VN is a lot less convenient to flip through than a set of pictures.
