“We open on this Eyes Wide Shut party…” - Steve

On this month’s patrons-only and patron-selected We ❤️ Movies episode, we’re finally sitting down to talk about one of the absolute best to ever hit the screen, The Fugitive! How incredible is Harrison Ford’s performance in this? Has Chicago ever looked cooler in a movie that’s not The Blues Brothers? Is there a better lived-in team of movie cops than Tommy Lee Jones’ rag tag group of U.S. Marshals? And name us a better Dadfernoon ass-magnet classic— you can’t! PLUS: Everyone meet Batman’s new butler… Albert!

The Fugitive stars Harrison Ford, Tommy Lee Jones, Sela Ward, Julianne Moore, Joe Pantoliano, Andreas Katsulas, Jeroen Krabbé, Daniel Roebuck, L. Scott Caldwell, Tom Wood, Ron Dean, and Richard Riehle as Cowardly Old Guard; directed by Andrew Davis.

Thanks so much for being the kick-ass Patreon subscriber that you are! Your support keeps the lights on around the old clubhouse and keeps us on the air. We know you have a lot of options for podcast enjoyment and we're stoked you chose to spend some time with us!

Yeah!!!

Frank Grimes

movie so good, simpsons had to parody it.

Adam Lewis

Where did Tommy Lee Jones go to college? That's right: the "Murder School."

Kureigu

Finally working patreon was not letting me play this one for a while there.

Jason

Is this one of the best “gray” movies? It really captures the gray, end-of-winter-not-quite-spring months. Most movies have the snowy Winter wonderland setting, but avoid the shit-ass brown snow winter months. The only other film, of the top of my head, that captures gray awesomely is Silence of the Lambs.

Dana Parker

They filmed US Marshals in my neighborhood and TO THIS DAY the local association still complains about the tree they cut down/trimmed. We're a historic district, so they couldn't actually do that without the city's permission and they didn't get it, and this area has a long memory.

Ami Michelle - Not Bad Luck

I can't wait to listen. My friend who passed away two years ago loved this podcast and would've been so stoked to hear this episode. They filmed it in his town and he claimed that him and his cousin were even in one shot when they go over the train tracks (but only the widescreen version, lol). He took me on a tour of all the shooting locations and it was so cool. Thank you for this.

Les Whinen

As someone from Chicago, this is the most Chicago movie there is.

James C Harris

Andreas Katsulas was the best xharacter on B5!

Clever Gurrrl

I actually like that Sam Gerard shoots at Richard in the Police Station. We follow Sam so much and start to admire him and this is unexpected. Even Richard looks shocked to realize (along with us that Sam could kill him). It raises the stakes and there is real danger. Also, I imagine Sam is hasn't slept much, his pride is taking a hit cause this guy has evaded him and came into his house (a police station) and his perfect police work becomes more reckless in that moment. Also, it just feels like a western. Love this movie.

TJ Gaines

So who else paused this to re-watch the Batman OnStar commercials? Just me, okay.

Mark Ibarra

Don't bust poor Steve's balls for having NPC energy. Ride or Die is for the young!

James Goodreau

Gonna start having the take that Curtis Armstrong is the best Joker

Busiris

I know I already re-watched this movie in anticipation of the episode, but FYI for folks that go to Regal Cinemas - They're putting this one back out in theaters for one day next week, Sunday 3/17!!! I'm genuinely tempted to watch it again just because it would be on the big screen.

Ed Harris

Love this one. As much I like the sequel, it would have been funny if it had just been a legal drama about Kimble suing the absolute crap out of Chicago PD.

Mike Kling

Fled has to be a stay tuned.

What's Better Hospital or Prison Food: HOSPITAL ALL DAY

Jason

Oh man, it’s been a minute for that film. Way overdue for a rewatch

Matthew Kennedy

Beautiful work, Chris. Chicago accents and Sausage Klause name drops 🙌

John Locke

Hospital cafeteria food is aweome. When my second daughter was born, my wife and I were able to get room service all day. We were there for three days and it was like being at a resort.

Darcy

Nice quick burp at 5:24. I listener request to know who that was.

Ray

Okay so US Marshalls next month?

HockeenightsCT

Exhibit A for why we need to put ugly people in the movies again. The background Chicago guys are Chicagoey in a way that can only be achieved by living that sausage life.

RJ Cunningham

I feel bad that a part of me has been trained to expect fat/ugly jokes to explain a characters presence since that would be the only way you’d see guys like that in a movie today

RJ Cunningham

That’s hilarious. Only person it couldn’t have been was Eric as he was beginning to speak as the burp was ending

RJ Cunningham

All the Andreas Katsulas talk got me thinking a good WHM-Babylon 5 podcast would be The Babble-on 4

Robert Tarade

An absolute all timer of a performance from TLJ. My favourite is his “think me up something with sprinkles on top” line.

Darryl Bowen

I just spent four days in the hospital and the food was pretty great...other than one morning when the hash browns tasted like crap.

Mike FM

Devlin-MacGregor did nothin' wrong.

Justine Prudhomme

My take is on the "I don't care" line is, at the risk of sounding incredibly obvious, that it's less of a burn and more that Kimble's supposed guilt or innocence is completely irrelevant as far as Gerard is concerned.

Jeffrey’s Hologram (♫ My whole world’s a void…♩)

I wasn’t sure where else to ask them, but is there anywhere in all of We Hate Movies or maybe Dead Meat that they showed the end of 1999’s Bats? I was watching the movies and did not recognize until I saw that scene! Help?

Dan Craftwerk

The Jim Ross Wrestling Commentary is God Tier. Bah Gawd

Phillip

Surprised no one mentioned the first time the show was remade in the late 70s and retitled The Incredible Hulk.

Jon Wika

This has always drove me crazy since the first time I saw this in the theater. The scene in the hospital where Richard is cleaning the blinds the woman that is working there looks exactly like Linda Hamilton's roommate in the first Terminator, she has the same hair and headphones and manorisms. Has anyone else thought this?

Dan sulin

I know the boys aren’t B5 heads but Andreas Katsulas was probably one of the most popular characters on that show. His death 2006 is part of the reason getting any other B5 spin off out has stalled. Him and Peter Jurasik steal that show

Chris Tobias

Jim Ross: damn it, that man has a family... oh... wait.

Kelly Burns

So my little The Fugitive related story. My grandpa was a waiter at a pretty well-known restaurant here in Chicago for over 30 years. When The Fugitive was filming he waited on Harrison Ford who he didn't actually recognize until he was leaving because he still had the beard from the beginning of the movie at this point. Indiana Jones was my very first hero as a kid (I was obsessed) so my grandpa was a little bummed he didn't realize it before he could maybe ask for an autograph or something for me... but the thing that he said always stood with him and really made him love Harrison Ford after that was that he tipped 200% on the bill.

Brittany Mitchell

I'm #teamsteve! I tell people all the time when they post those "Your my first call" memes. I'm not helping you clean up a crime scene or hiding you from the cops! I'll get you a lawyer! Like Marcus said in Bad Boys 2 "We can't let y'all go but all this shit will get worked out in court!"

Ningxin Zhu

I'm so late to this episode but Steve comparing Harrison Ford with the dyed black hair to Rod Blagojevich is legitimately the funniest thing I have ever heard
