On this installment of our bi-monthly Made-for-TV-movie re-cap show, we're taking a slight detour to talk about the direct-to-DVD espionage thriller, Spymate!

Gotta acknowledge positive stuff when we can, there's a surprisingly good amount of stunt work in this movie, no? And Debra Jo Rupp is great. But also, what is with this desert opening? How obnoxious are these circus folks? Did this Mike Muggins guy kill his wife? How can a kid be this book-smart but also this dumb in every other regard? What is with this lady's French accent? And confirmation folks: Richard Kind holds a gun in this movie!

Spymate stars Emma Roberts, Chris Potter, Debra Jo Rupp, Richard Kind, Pat Morita, and Louie as Minkey; directed by Robert Vince.

Once In A Lifetime is a bi-monthly (every-other month) WHM podcast where the gang watches some outrageous Lifetime movies and attempts to sift through the madness within.

I once had the privilege of seeing Louie, the chimp who played Minkey, perform in person at the NJ state fair in 2002. His handler had him perform stunts he was did for this very movie such as sneaking up on bad guys. That is all.

I'd be ok with dogtober

Suggestion for a future episode: 'Deranged Granny'. Wendie Malick stars as the titular granny.

Suggestion for a future episode: Designed to Kill (aka Fatal Fashion).

For a future episode, you should do the 1989 made-for-tv satanic daycare panic movie 'Do You Know the Muffin Man?' Matthew Laurance (Mel Silver!) is in it, as well as a baby-faced Stephen Dorff. Not a Lifetime movie, but *very* Lifetime adjacent, and you can catch it on Tubi.

Sergio Rozo

Watching this the plot reminds me of the first kingsman movie, I bet if that movie had an ape it would make it more entertaining.

Nate Brennaman

There is a lifetime movie from 2015 called "The Unauthorized Beverly Hills, 90210 Story" with Dan Castellaneta as Aaron Spelling." Same with Melrose Place.

1996's Maternal Instincts would make for an excellent Once in a Lifetime episode. Delta Burke putting the 'crazy' in 'baby crazy' as she tries to wreck the life of the doctor (played by one of the aunts on Sabrina the Teenage Witch) who gave her an unwanted hysterectomy. Bonkers in the best Lifetime tradition with special mention going to the scene where Burke tries to run a guy over with her car to the tune of a creepy slowed down version of Hush Little Baby.

I watch at least two Lifetime movies every week so be careful when you ask for suggestions 😆

You gotta check out A Perfect Paring on Netflix. Fish out of water, Aussie accents of varying suspiciousness, at one point the main character manages to shower the CEO she is trying to impress with liquid manure.

There’s a 1996 Fred Savage/Candace Cameron movie called “She Cried No” aka “Freshman Fall.” It’s on Tubi. Fred Savage plays an abusive partner to Cameron’s helpless noes. Ripe for bad Wonder Years and Full House jokes.

Dawn Elicia Billings

I would go with She says she’s innocent. That’s with Charlotte Ross, Katie Sagel and Robert Picardo. It’s also called violation of trust. She fought Alone with Tiffany Amber Thiesen and Brian Austin Green. Also Silencing Mary with Melissa Joan Hart and Peter MacNicol.
