On this month's helping of cacophonous cartoon conversation, the guys are talking about the Disney reboot of Doug! The episode covered is the late-series entry, "Doug Plays Cupid," which originally aired back on May 22, 1999. How dreadful is this show without Billy West? Why did Roger have to become rich? And does that gym teacher have a foot fetish? PLUS: Was that a fish person at the end? Huh? What?

Where in the world did the guys find this? I can't find Disney's Doug anywhere. Not even the nefarious places. Edit: it's on Disney plus but it's listed as season 3 episode 22, the season 7 thing threw me off.

Just go ahead and review one season. “GOT ANY SMOKES, DOUGGGGGGGG”?!

These two Doug AD episodes have been some of my absolute favorites! As absurd as it would be I'd totally listen to a whole Doug WHM series. Maybe if the podcast is still going in the next 20+ years. Fingers crossed.

Antifa are the real fascists, Funnie.

Erin Hardy

Right. Does Disney just not acknowledge those first four seasons?

I must have rage quit Disney's Doug immediately, because I had no memory of that new theme song or Doug's new voice. I was a little drunk and distracted when I watched this, so I had to watch that fish scene like three times to make sure that I wasn't missing an explanation.

I just fell down a Disney’s Doug wormhole.

I’m studying animation here in LA (Also the dude that did BG on Mando season 2 and 3.) In case y’all care, modern animation in the US looks the way it does because most of the industry uses a vector-based software package called Toon Boom Harmony. The nature of the program is such that character designs kind of have to have that weird modern look. The benefit is that animating is faster, less expensive, and in a show like Ducktales, your characters can go places and do cool shit that would’ve been too expensive to do in the old days without it looking super crappy.

At the mention of Rocko’s Modern Life I was distinctly reminded of something I haven’t thought of in decades…the game Spank the Monkey! It shows up in some episode and it’s hilarious!

Steven Copeland

May I humbly request a Doug side show? My God do you guys make me laugh talking about these characters. Thank you!

That moment when they mentioned Tucker C. being rich and a TV news person made me remember Anderson Cooper being an heir of the Vanderbilt empire as well as a news guy.... huh.
