"Yeah, man, this is a weird one..." - Steve

On this month's sweaty-ass, dog days of summer Animation Damnation, the guys are chatting about an episode of the incredibly convoluted and totally out-there cartoon, Silverhawks! On their run through of the first episode, cleverly titled "The Origin Story," which aired on September 8, 1986, the guys are asking important questions like: "Did they say that one character is from a planet of mimes?" "What's going on with that big, jacked cone-headed bird creature?" And, most importantly, to address the sensation of watching a Silverhawks episode: "Are we on drugs?"

Thanks so much for being so awesome and supporting We Hate Movies on Patreon! Please be sure to spread the word! Your support is what keeps this operation going! We know you have a number of choices for podz and we appreciate you spending some time with us!

This episode should have been called " Silverhawks: The How to Buy Silverhawks Episode." The subliminal messaging worked because out of all the 80s toylines, I had a shit ton of these.

Kevin Lynch

TALLY HO! I love this show when I was a kid.

I’m glad that you all discussed, in detail, the whole “partly metal, partly real”. That lyric has been with me since I saw this show as a kid. It makes no sense. Also Interstella 5555 is awesome. You all should do it for animation damnation during WLM month.

Feather Daddy. That's all I got out of this one. This was not an episode to have a wandering mind. Lol. Will relisten.

Convincing John

I don't know if they're still on there, but it's worth searching Youtube for the NSFW outtakes from the voice actors' recording booth on Silverhawks.

I will absolutely sign up for another month if you guys do the second episode as well.

Ok, here is the deal... though this is the first episode that aired in September there was a sneak peak of Silver Hawks that aired during Spring Break the same year that edited episodes 1&2 together as a special. Rankin-Bass did the same thing with Thundercats the year before. Rankin-Bass did a 3rd series like this called Tiger Sharks and that show is nightmare fuel!

Ok here's (sniffs) here's the show idea (sniffs) these half human bird machine things (sniffs) fly 100 light years into another (sniffs) galaxy to fight a monster powered by moon light and he's called (sniffs)... he's called... (sniffs) MonStar... and get this we have one character hold on (sniffs for about 15 minutes) a fuckin robot from the mime planet

Solar Opposites has a parody called Silver Cops. It is hilarious and has Aliens eating ass

When I saw you were doing this show, I thought: "isn't this the one with the stupid quizzes at the end of each episode?" Thank you for confirming that this is indeed the one with the stupid quizzes at the end of each episode. I have a strong memory as a child of him failing the quiz in one episode, which even at the age of like, 5, I thought was a weird turn for the show.

"if I caught a presidency I wouldn't know what to do with it" Yes I would buy tickets to see Eric's political stand-up show where he sits down halfway behind a Letterman desk

Chris Walton

Crazy enough, one of the writers of Thundercats and Silver Hawks ended up getting his head cut off in a drug deal gone wrong. So enormous amounts of cocaine were certainly involved in making these shows.

Oh! That Guy.

I wonder if the guys know about the show Axe Cop which was guided by the ideas from a 5 year old.

Rose Esposito

I was pleasantly half-dozing on the beach listening to this, and then "EEEAAARRTH" brought me violently back to consciousness. But in a hilarious way. What even is this show

feather daddy is inspired

definitely one of the best AD episodes covered. Definitely need to revisit the series sometime and cover one of the standard bad guys of the week episode. One of the things I do remember watching it as a kid was when they would get to the "educational" stuff at the end and quite often the animation didn't line up with the actual dialogue of the question and even as a dumb 6 year old I still remember thinking "how can they be that sloppy"

Phillip

there's really not much difference between the shows, one is a cast of furries with a villain that transforms into a mummy every episode and the other is a cast of cyborg people with a villain that transforms into a robot every episode

Phillip

its amazing how they really thought Thundercats and this show needed an extremely detailed origin story, they couldn't just jump into the first episode and explain the premise in 20 seconds. Instead they make a two part origin filled with characters we're never going to see again

Jenny Ibrahim

I had all the silverhawks and the giant Falcon that could grip your arm as a present for being a ring bearer. I wanna say there was a ship too but I was like 4 and can't remember
