Hey gang, hope you had an okay week, but oh, Lordy, am I ever glad Friday is finally upon us!

We've been jamming a lot of production in the last couple weeks to get ahead of the game before our run of spring shows that starts in Atlanta in a couple weeks, so I am BEYOND ready to kick back this weekend and watch some movies!

This week sees the release of the latest from Alex Garland, a filmmaker whose directorial track record is currently at 3-1 for me. I'm a big fan of Ex Machina, Annihilation, and the F/X sci-fi wonder that was Devs, but boy, oh boy, did Men leave a bad taste in my mouth. The climax of that film is on my list for one of the absolute worst third acts I've seen in recent years, possibly all of the 21st Century so far.

So because of that, I'm going into Civil War with about as much caution as I can, but I'm still seeing it in IMAX all the same! Anywho, the tracking on this one is kinda wide, ranging from $20M to $30M at the domestic box office for opening weekend. I gotta say, I feel like the ads, both broadcast and online, have been plentiful, so much so that I'm absolutely thrilled the movie is out today because I was more-than-over watching that trailer in theaters. Also keep in mind, it's got about a $2.9M head start from Thursday's early screenings.

Okay, so taking into account Garland's high-ish profile of previous works, the major ad buys that A24 has taken out, and the public's all-around grim curiosity over the content of the film, where do y'all see this one landing?

Vote in the poll below and we'll see what shakes out this Monday during On-Screen Live! Oh and by the way, speaking of Monday, you fine folks are the first to know that Monday morning, we'll be dropping a 30-ish-minute bonus episode (on the main/free feed only) that's a combination of tour plugs AND a massive, 8-round edition of the VHS Trailer Game! Yes, this is to raise awareness about our upcoming run of shows this spring, but also, these are OFFICIAL VHS Trailer Game rounds, so all the points count!

It was a fun little bonus we recorded last night and you're not gonna want to miss that one. So check out the free feed this Monday morning as we promote these awesome upcoming shows AND play a longer-than-average edition of America's favorite game about obsolete materials!

Have a great weekend, y'all! - Andrew

I love Garland's visual style, and despite the bad press on Men, I really enjoyed it. Looking forward to how this movie turns out.

Alex Klopfenstein

Automatic half star for having Stephen McKinley Henderson. Dunno if I was in the right or wrong headspace but this movie got its hooks in me and shook me up.

Busiris

Wow, a big VHS trailer game bonus episode? Very excited! Oh and I think the movie will do okay, maybe just under $30 mil.

I'm seeing Civil War tonight, can't wait!

Leesha Olivier

This looks interesting to me, so we will see how it goes over.

Frank Grimes

My theater was moderately full last night...i think it'll do decent in the BO...15 to 25

I'm thinking the higher part of meh as the real world politically disillusioned are probably not chomping at the bit for more polarization.

Aaron Rabiroff

I suspect the movie is better than the early hot takes and I look forward to seeing it but for box office, none of his last few movies came close (even with inflation) to having a huge opening weekend, and while it has a good cast, it doesn't have say a Timothee Chalamet that has a proven old-star-power-style draw

Vincent Guereca

I kind of get weird "Detroit' vibes from the trailer, so, I voted Total Flop: $15M or Lower

BiggestBear

I'm sure it's good, but I don't think I need a movie like this right now. I suspect a lot of other people (especially Americans) will likely feel the same way.

Chris

30 minute VHS Trailer Game?! Christmas in April!

Derrick Affolder

I'm excited for it but I don't know about the world. I say probably $23-29M but could go any direction

Clarity Morrison

Given what I've seen about the movie, I'm hoping for a flop

Brad Mull

Will bring all the doomsday prepers out of our bunkers lol

Michael Birdsall

I hope it flops. It's really sickening to see a movie about a 'civil war' to encourage all of the blockheads walking around talking about it

Jamie

If it didn't have Alex Garlands name on it, I would ignore it just as I did The Hunt (the horror movie, not the Danish film)

Justin Genova

I’m shocked by the amount of advertising I’ve been seeing for this film. Seems like there isn’t much else out right now. Most people that wanted to see Kong probably already did so, so I can see this picking up $23+ mil opening weekend

Frank Grimes

not too shabby wins

DMAC

Just got out of the movies after seeing Civil War. That's going to stay with me for a while. Not a weak performance in the whole movie.
