Hey gang, hope you all got your Monsterverse hats on, because we're heading back into it this weekend! That's right, after a month filled with war on Arrakis, pandas doing Kung Fu, nuns getting pregnant, and Ghostbusters finally moving back to New York, we have ourselves another slobber-knocker at the box office as Godzilla and King Kong tangle (and team up?) in the all-new Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire! Wow, two weekends in a row we have big movies with 'Empire' in the title—weird!

Anyway, yes, Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire opens up a few years after we had 2021's Godzilla vs. Kong and, if you're like me, you're beyond ready to get stupid once again at the movies! I'm a big monster movie fan, kaiju stuff especially, and while I think this new series from Legendary has strayed way far off from the way things were set up in 2014's Godzilla, I'm still on board with how ridiculous these keep getting.

The review embargo on this sucker didn't lift until the day before release, so if you're one of those people that still thinks reviews effect box office appeal for movies like this, well, they definitely won't this time around, that's for sure.

Important to keep in mind that the month has also been dominated by films that cater to the exact audiences this film caters to, males under 40 and kids, so there's a possibility of burnout there. There's also more NCAA action this weekend, so there could be some folks out there with something else to do!

The tracking for this film is putting its opening weekend gross somewhere between $51M - $65M with most forecasts have it around $62M. We'll see how things go this weekend, especially with most schools either being closed or having half-days today heading into the holiday weekend. Will Godzilla and Kong, much like the Lord Jesus himself, rise once again and top the box office? Or will these two members of Monster Royalty stay dead in the cave behind the big stone?

Vote now in this week's poll and see how things shake out this coming Monday on On-Screen Live!

Have a great weekend at the movies, y'all! - Andrew

I used to be able to guess box office totals pretty accurately for the big releases but post-covid I am way off a lot of the time.

Welp, that was sure a surprise
