Hey everybody!

It's been a while since I blogged regularly here (or at all) so let's get things re-started with a post about my last job.

I worked for a tiny Fintech startup. I was the Principle operations engineer and we grew from about 30~ people to over 60ish by the time we sold. It was an interesting ride and I learned a lot from it.

At the start of 2023, we got acquired by a huge player in the Fintech space. It was a big deal; we had an article on Axios even!

The original idea was to acquire us, move everything into their custody, and continue business as usual. Our people would continue to work on the product, etc.

They flew everyone to Boston for a week and gave a big song-and-dance about how great they were. And they were all truly really nice people.

They fed us so much great food. They won over my mind, heart, and stomach! haha

But there was one big problem - they didn't do DevOps the way we did; there was effectively no position for me there.

We managed to work out a contract that everyone seemed happy with. But the weekend after I signed it, they turned around and gave me my two-week notice. No severance, no extended insurance, nothing.

I'll never know exactly what happened behind the scenes but I have my suspicions. It's not a monumental loss because I'm a startup guy and Fidelity Investments is about the opposite as you can be in the Fintech space.

So yeah, that's the story of what happened with my last gig.

Until I land my next one, I'm focusing on Egee content simply because it helps bridge the financial gap and really because now is a perfect time!

Thank you everyone for your support!!

So Ko-fi tips are paid directly but there's an membership thing like Patreon's, too. I have Ko-fi set up just for one-off tips for now. I'll make a post this week about the different ways to support and my goals for offerings in the future!
