2020 was a strange and opportune time for the channel. I've already talked enough about how Distro Delves was more or less a failure in terms of channel growth, but I haven't talked about the other stuff I've been doing.

I've been listening and trying to understand the feedback I get from videos and, most importantly, live streams.

I've been unable to fathom the idea that people tune in because they are interested in Egee. So I decided to dip into an avenue of YouTube I've been interested in for a while to see if I could hone something people often comment on: my voice.

I made a furry asmr-style channel and it's growing faster than the main Egee channel.

Reading people's feedback, I've sort of doubled down on "Egee the Red Husky" fursona this year, and I've amassed a considerable following of furry lurkers. There are many people in the Egee.io Discord server interested in Egee the furry and don't even tune into the Linux or tech stuff!

So at this point, I have four YouTube channels:

Egee

The main channel is foolishly called Egee. I've considered changing the name to make it more evident that it's a tech channel, but meh. I kind of like having it ambiguous.

I'd love to see the main Egee channel be approachable to non-technical users and non-furry's alike.

That said, I don't have a good idea what I want to do with it nor what the style should be. People really like the chill, relaxing atmosphere of the streams and my recent videos, but I don't really know where to go with that.

My voice-over delivery has gotten a lot of great feedback, but I'm not sure what to do with the video to make it more unique and less boring.

Floofy Egee

I originally made this channel right after the main Egee channel but specifically for music. I didn't do anything with it for a long time, and it winded up being a sandbox for random non-Egee specific videos.

Now we've come full-circle, and it's a music channel again—sort of.

The Floofy Egee channel doesn't have a solid direction just yet but once the Egee partial arrives, I want to do live-action Egee stuff and lot more music video stuff.

Open Egee

I chose this terrible name as a play on "Open whatever" from the Open Source community because I didn't think anybody would find, let alone care, about it.

For better or worse, people found it, and now it has just under 700 subscribers. Whoops.

I made the channel to practice speaking "better" and so I could ask people watching what they thought of it. And apparently, people like my voice a lot.

There are other really great furry asmr channels, and there's like 4 of us that all follow each other on Twitter now. And they are all just awesome!

My plan for this channel is to keep working on my voice and act with roleplays and stuff, which is super outside my comfort zone.

Brian's Adventures

I hope to pay the OG YouTube channel some love this year but no promises.

It's hard to do regular content for a channel like this, but I want to make something for this channel each time I work on my car.

I've had plans to record motorcycle stuff, but this year just didn't pan out, and I honestly don't really like my bike.

I have plans to get a different motorcycle, but that is near the bottom of the to-do list and probably won't happen until 2022.

I'm not planning to promote or link to this channel until I have a better idea of what to do with it.

Discord

I'm struggling with the Discord server. Egee.io isn't really about Egee, but nearly all of the new people who joined recently think it does.

Especially with all the new furry members joining, it's weird to be like, "uh yeah, not everyone in Egee.io cares about what Egee does." And it's not fair to them, either.

I've considered making a new Discord server specifically for Egee stuff, but I worry it will compete with Egee.io.

And there's also the concern that people who like Linux would join a server and expect everyone to be running Linux, which is an issue we deal with regularly in Egee.io.

There's a lot to parse here!

tl;dr 2020 was actually quite good for the channel(s), and 2021 will be even better!
