A couple of years ago I had an idea for a "mini-series" to acquire old computers to see if Linux could "revive" them.

The idea came from an old industrial computer my Dad had collecting dust in his garage.

This thing:

It's a Windows NT era machine build for PLC programming and related stuff. Amazing it, it has a pair of USB slots and the chipset is all Intel so.. It should actually work with a distro like Debian, right?

The thing is, I don't know how to even make a video like this. For starters, it doesn't have video-out so I would have to record the monitor. Second, I don't really want to appear in a video but I think the hardware is the most interesting thing about it so I'd want to show it.

Anyway, I'd like to sample a video like this before the end of the year. And if people really dig it, maybe I'll see if it's feasible to have a mini-series alongside Distro Delves.

Picture this: Scavaging for old computer equipment at local Thrift Stores or Garage Sales and seeing if I can renew them with Linux. I think it sounds pretty cool! 😉

Assuming there's at least some kind of Pentium 4 or better in that old relic it could run Debian (Anything older than a 586 (Pentium 1,2 and maybe 3) probably won't). You can show the hardware without showing yourself. I like the idea of it. Whether it renews them to a point of being functional remains to be seen but interested to find out

If you can make it work I would be all for it.

Planning it feels like that KDE vs Xfce video where I didn't know what the response would be. Maybe people will really dig it and we can dial in the episode format together.. That would be awesome!
