After the somewhat unfortunate feedback from the maintainers of OpenMandriva in the most recent episode, I started thinking of ways to increase transparency and invite feedback.

Open Source It!

I've used Notion to plan episodes but it occurred to me that I could put the checklists in a repo on GitHub and use Readme's as a sort of repo-hack to display them.

Having the checklist & notes (the script, basically) on GitHub would allow people to see more detail about episodes as well as submit issues and PRs for improvements or whatever.

I still want to write articles for each episode on Medium but getting into the groove with writing articles is a lot of work and I haven't settled on a format for them yet.

An Actual Checklist!

As you can see from the post's image, I'm going to start following an actual physical checklist while I film episodes.

It is cumbersome bouncing between the Elgato software and Firefox, and Notion's asynchronous design makes it weird to go between my laptop and my workstation while editing the same page.

I realized while editing the OpenMandriva video that I completely missed a few sections such as recording with OBS. Having a physical document should make it much easier to keep track of everything.

Pro-Tip

Since I'm moving the episode planning from Notion to GitHub, I need to create a new script for each video before the release date.

This means you can see which Linux distros will be reviewed before they go live by following the GitHub repo ;)
