So, technically I have a schedule of movies planned for the next few months, but I've gotten a flood of recommendations of what I should watch after BoB/ThePacific/MotA, so I'd love to add some of them to the docket. I've included a list of the big ones that I've already seen, but what else would you guys recommend? (And it doesn't have to be WWII--could just be in the genre, or something you think I'd enjoy!) Or, would you like me to go back and do re-watch commentaries to some of these movies? (ie "Why Saving Private Ryan is the greatest WWII movie ever, etc). That's something I've been starting to experiment with, so I would certainly consider it.

I've already seen...

1. Saving Private Ryan

2. Schindler's List

3. Inglourious Basterds (one of my ALL TIME favorite movies)

4. Dunkirk (was lucky enough to see it in 70mm IMAX, but only saw that one time, so I actually don't remember much)

5. Empire of the Sun

6. 1917

7. Pearl Harbor

I'm sure there are more, but I'm struggling to think of them off the top of my head...

Since your list seems to be revolving around WWII/Holocaust, I would highly recommend the film "Fury" with Brad Pitt and Shia LeBeouf. A very gritty portrayal of an American tank crew in the last months of the war. I would also recommend "Hacksaw Ridge" with Andrew Garfield, and directed by Mel Gibson. It is the true story of a combat medic who served in the Pacific at Okinawa.

The new Midway is good. Patton. Dirty Dozen. Kelly's Heroes.

Here are some great ones, from the perspective of a retired Marine and 50+ year student of history: 1. Tora Tora Tora (far more accurate than Pearl Harbor, filmed by a Japanese crew from the Japanese POV and an American film crew from the US POV) 2. Midway (the new one) 3. Letters From Iwo Jima and Flags of Our Fathers (Eastwood's matched set on the battle of Iwo Jima, one from the Japanese POV and one from the American POV) 4. Cross of Iron (WW2 Russian front) 5. A Bridge Too Far (Operation Market Garden) 6. Defiance (Jewish partisans in WW2) 7. Twelve O'Clock High (American bomber crews, WW2) 8. Fury 9. The Best Years of Our Lives (vets returning from WW2 & readjusting) 10. Generation Kill (Iraq war miniseries) 11. Black Hawk Down (Somalia) 12. Jarhead (Desert Storm) 13. Restrepo (Afghanistan) 14. Lone Survivor (Afghanistan) 15. The Outpost (Afghanistan) 16. Zero Dark Thirty (the Bin Laden raid) 17. The Siege of Jadotville (Irish UN peacekeepers in Africa - a neglected masterpiece) 18. Ken Burns documentary miniseries: The Civil War 19. Ken Burns documentary miniseries: The War (WW2) 20. Ken Burns documentary miniseries: The Vietnam War
