Medusa is grey, Medusa started as a victim, but she kind of made herself a monster because the kids sided with their parents, who she despises. They symbolize this a bit with the statues, at first all the statues they show are monsters, but as Medusa is becoming the villain they reveal that she has also murdered thousands of innocent humans (and satyrs) that she keeps in her basement.

since you already posted the first season i dont care about spoilers anymore lol. in my mind medusa was a precursor to luke being revealed as the lightning thief. someone who had legitimate grievances against the gods but took out those grievances on innocent people and ended up causing damage on the scale that they were mad about the gods causing in the first place
