Finally watching Raiders! Don't ask me why, but I genuinely only remember watching "The Last Crusade" growing up, and this felt like a tragic gap in my film knowledge! Thoroughly enjoyed getting to see where the franchise started, and the music will be stuck in my head for weeks! (Not that I'm complaining 😄).

Sorry for another long comment... I know it's become a popular theory that Indiana was pointless in "Raiders," but to give a serious answer to a jokey meme: Obviously, movies aren't just about getting from point A, to point B. They're about characters. And Indiana's experiences results in a character arc, both in his relationship with Marian and his view of the supernatural. The fact that he experienced these things justified him being in the story (and allowed the audience to vicariously share his adventure). On a more pragmatic level, in the very least, without Indy, Marian would've been tortured/killed by Nazis. He also ensured that the ark was in possession of the U.S. government at the end (for better or worse). (Assuming the Nazis were in contact with the homeland - after they destroyed themselves - the ark likely would've been retrieved by a follow-up crew from Germany.) An alternative theory is that the Nazis only showed up at Marian's bar to get the amulet because they were following him. In that case, he would be especially instrumental to the plot, as no one would've found the ark without him.

I agree that it's a fun fan theory, and I think it can be a fun way to discuss the movie, as long as it's genuinely in good fun. Whether it's true or not, it doesn't take away from the fun of the film, because I agree--we're experiencing the adventure alongside him. He's the proxy for the audience, and we have a blast with him! Thank you for sharing your take--the more I hear the more I feel like I need to watch this another 50 times to make a decision 😄

I gotta say as a kid I saw Raiders of the List Ark 5 times in the movie theater. And it will always be in my top favorites of all time. P S. There was a Wilhelm Scream when he was on the truck with the Ark hit the breaks and the car slammed into the back through which the Guy flew out onto the hood.

I can understand why 😄 It's an absolute blast! And thank you for pointing out the Wilhelm scream! I was genuinely shocked when I thought they hadn't included one. Silly me 😊
