I swear this series keeps getting better and better! My only disappointment...nobody fell in the muddy water! You can't give me a wood plank walkway, and not have anybody fall in! I feel so betrayed 😭

Maybe no one fell in, but Jayne fell a bit as a man. I agree with the claim that the upcoming Episode 8 is astoundingly good... it's my favorite... but those that follow- 9-14 are simply a cut above the earlier episodes. It's a shame these folks were just hitting their stride when out of the blue the call came down.

It’s not talked about much, but I think Jayne is the character who loses the most from a short series that ended too early. He really just gets this episode, and a few random scenes for actual character moments…otherwise, he’s either played as a stereotype, a butt for jokes, or a minor antagonist. Yet…I think there were greater overall plans for him. The storyline wasn’t ever going to center around him, but I think the relationships he had/will find on the ship could’ve been really interesting…but I’ll probably make comments on that after we get towards the end, because there’s more to see. That said…a tiny moment of Jayne, not to absolve him of anything…but when “Stitch” is threatening Simon, Jayne looks at Simon for a second, and then throws a perhaps-too-honest “He ain’t one of mine” about Simon to confuse Stitch. That could just be a moment of Jayne’s blunt honesty working out, but then, as Stitch looks confused and stays focused on Simon, Jayne immediately engages and distracts him, letting Simon get away. This is not to say that Jayne likes Simon (he definitely does not), but it’s a moment that shows that Jayne has an end to his sadism and dislike. On a completely unrelated note, I love the fact that Inara spends the entire episode poised, confident, unshaken by awful people, everything as you describe her…except for one minute when she finds out people love Jayne, to the point where her words stop working and she just sputters out sounds for one line. Both of these are tiny moments that I rarely ever see anyone catch on, and in the moment, they are tiny…but when viewed in the contrast of the rest of the characters, I just love those little details!
