Regarding Sakura's grading - A moral boost is definitely a very plausible reason too. But Bae Yoonjung has also been in the kpop scene for a very long time and worked with many girl groups. I guess she did indeed see something in Sakura that gave her the confidence to push her to Grade A. She also said in an interview years later (I can't remember when exactly) that she gave Sakura the grade without any influence from the show runners or anyone else.

Fun fact: Aoi, the HKT48 member at 59:31 was the captain of Sakura's team (Team KIV) with Sakura assisting her as the co-captain. Sakura at the time of joining PD48 was also being groomed to eventually take over as leader of the whole HKT48 by the then current leader.
