Hi! For the past month I was struggling to find a good printhouse to create this deck. Noone gave me a guarantee that the gold foil on black and white print will not slip even slightly compared to the original design. Some of the printhouses said the gold can move up to 1cm in either direction, which automatically disqualified their offer. After a long and fruitless search, I came back to my local printhouse who gave me another offer - more expensive but more precise. A new technique of foiling that minimised the displacement of the gold to  0.5mm! I decided to risk it all and give it a try. This project consumed a lot of my time already - giving up was not an option.

Yesterday I got an e-mail that the prints are ready. 100 decks up for a pick up ✨

The gold foil looks amazing! I'm really happy with the texture of the paper which was coated with a soft to touch layer that prevents the surface from scratching and being stained with fingerprints. I'm really satisfied with the quality of the print too but upon close inspection most of the designs have a slight displacement of gold. It doesn't really stands out too much though. Cards are 70 x 120mm and shift of gold usually doesn't reach even a 0.5mm

Three design are affected a bit more. The black filling of the background doesn't meet with the golden rim.

I showed decks to my friends and family. They didn't notice the misplacements and when I pointed it out they all said that it's seriously nothing much. I'm a perfectionist myself and since i know how the designs should look like - all of the mistakes are standing out to me way more than to anyone else.

I'm standing in front of a decision. Should I reprint the designs that have bigger displacements without any guarantee of print coming out better or just leave it as it is and let people have it?

This project already consumed a big sum of money. Reordering individual designs will kick up the price of a whole deck without really giving me any guarantee of it being any better.
On top of that I still face buying boxes to pack the decks in.

What are your thoughts? Is it ok for few cards to have small misprints?

I’m a perfectionist myself so I can’t see what you see but I do understand the struggle with this- honestly I think you were VERY lucky to find a printing company with such a small rate of displacement and although it’s good to strive for perfection I would honestly buy these on sight, you can clearly see the hard work put into it and like I said earlier it’s such a minimal displacement that you’re probably the only one truly noticing it as something to factor in. I think they came out great and it’s ok to compromise those small mm’s considering you do have to keep cost and your own economy in mind as well! I personally love this deck♥️
