As you can see in the initial sketches i had a bit of a struggle with settling down on one thing. At first i tried to make the character more intimidating hence the armor and multiple horns, but in the end it didn't vibe well with the meaning of the card itself, plus the silhouette wasn't easy to read. I took a step back and  decided to simplify the contour of the character, but on the second sketch it lacked the feeling of imminent, solemn, unstoppable end.
Making the character sleek and almost towering over the viewer, was definitely a good way to portray that. 

Death as a part of natural cycle got crowned with flowers, one hand offering sense of aid and relief the other free to finish the work They have. They don't look down on those who die, in the end it's nothing personal to Them. I imagine Them walking slowly through the Earth, ending one cycle to begin the new one.
