Technique I'm using is a crossbreed between enveloping and gesture drawing. What I'm starting with while studying from references is usually establishing first few angles around the shoulders, neck and face and then i build up the rest from there. Important thing (that i sometimes forget myself) is to not focus much on stiff angles but to remember about the gesture of the pose itself. Broad long strokes are really beneficial to the drawing, it centeres the gravity, and allows the eye to focus on the movement rather than unnecessary details.
