Hi everyone! I recently got a chance to meet up with my friend Hariam to chill and work on some creative ideas together~ Since we were listening to some Legend of Avantris content in the background, we decided to go with "The clown" as our main topic of this project.

I did some rubber cuts in the past, mostly very small sized pieces and I really wanted to do something bigger this time. The first step was to think of some ideas.

I decided to go with the two in the middle even though the upper right corner was really tempting too! Maybe next time = v = After we were done with the ideas, it was time to visit an art store. We got ourselves some paints, papers and materials to carve into. From that moment on it was just the matter of sitting down and executing the idea. We transferred the drawings onto the linoleum in pencil, then drew over it with a marker and began to carve!

This piece was carved in a soft linoleum. My technique begs for improvement but it was good enough with a lot of patience on my side. These are the results!

Next piece I carved into a piece of rubber I got from Etsy a long while ago. It was a double layered block which was super satisfying to carve through. Kinda like this but in black)

The inner layer was just a tiny bit more soft, so the scalpel and the chisel bit into it without much resistance.

Here's the second piece!

And a few little test prints~

Overall it's a very meditative medium for me. It takes a lot of time and it's not very forgiving so I had to be really careful and think twice before putting in each and every cut, but it was totally worth it! I'm looking forward to working on it some more in the future and maybe make a small batch of prints to sell 🔥

🤣 I too love Legends of Avantris and honestly I love that it was the inspiration for your clowns.
