Hey Z, nice review. Have you listened to the Amiron Home yet? The successor to the T90. I have a pair and would send to you if desired. I hated the T90, but love love the Amiron. I chose them over the DT1990 pro. Let me know...

i can actually attest to exactly what Z describes here. the balanced pads sound pretty neutral. the analytical pads definitely bring out the high end. what's interesting is that the analytical pads (to my hearing) seem to boost the detail across the entire spectrum of frequencies. and i don't mean just a little bit, but by a considerably noticeable difference. my preference definitely goes to the analytical pads. what's more is that the balanced pads are supposed to have the edge in bass response, yet i find the analytical pads besting the balanced ones in the bass department; in detail, impact, AND extension. whichever way, unbelievably great sound all around.

Thanks for the review, was almost considering buying them on spec simply by virtue of loving the T90's (yes...I'm a sadist) and the fact that they look like Darth Vader's cans.

Well in the 3 minutes and 4 songs I quickly ran through them I was not impressed. Sounded like OLD Beyer. Bright as fuck and just as ugly.

See, I knew you could do it. They aren't the best looking headphones, that is for sure. Comfy as fuck though. Love how they feel on my head. I could care less how they look, they are meant for the home. I can see how you feel about their brightnes. I disagree. As I have told you, we disagree on a lot. That is what I like about your reviews. For me, the sound reminds me of standing in front of the soundboard at the Fillmore in SF. I can hear everything. Then again, 3 min and 4 songs in a loud head-if meet should be enough to set an opinion.

Thanks Jim... they are indeed very sweet sounding. They aren't bright at all. They are very extended, fatigue free and incredibly comfortable. Their detail retrieval is not as great as the 1990, but in every other way I prefer them. Ultimately it comes down to preference. Yes, they aren't as pretty, but are way better looking than the pictures show. And the alcantera pads are soooo yummy.

True. I take back my statement about their detail retrieval. They resolve and image beautifully. Was listening to Joshua Tree and couldn't believe how much of the rhythm guitar I could hear. Every instrument was in its place, perfectly. Haven't listened to Joshua Tree in yrs. Bono sounded amazing. My Amirons are at about 50 hrs and they keep getting better.

I have the DV336se and I am interested in both the 1990 combo and the 1770 combo. The 1770 combo seems to be an excellent deal but I am curious if the 1770s would work dark voice. I like a sound which can insinuate the highs and midrange clear with a pronounced bass. I listen to chill-hop, folk, classical guitar and some EDM and deep house and I would like a headphone which can not lie to me and still be fun (1990s). Would the 1770s work well for my music preferences or is it basically unlistenable for things other than berlin underground house. let me know if you have any recommendations on what to do. I would like to purchase something this week, let me know your thoughts.

I think the 1770 got a BIT softer on my DV but not enough for me to use them for everything. The 1990 is the superior headphone.

Hey Z. New here but i have been watching alot of your videos and enjoyed them. I recently bought myself a pair of these(Beyerdynamic DT 1990 Pro) and must say i love them. Upgraded from DT 770 Pros 80ohm and the difference is huge imo. Both are\were running on a NAD D1050 Dac\amp but i feel theres something missing in the sound. I know these are 250 Ohm and that might be it, but im looking for a dac and amp to drive it like it should be driven :) Been looking on some of the products from schiit and aune, magni 3 with modi multibit, Asgard 2 with modi multibit and Jotunheim with the dac module,Aune X1s + Aune X7s, which of these should i go for or do you have some better suggestions ? Thanks for the great content and videos :)

I am still an Aune fanboy so I would X1s if you could (Massdrop has one right now). The only other ringer would be the Fostex HP-A4 but it may lack a bit of power.

Just ordered the X1s yesterday so thanks alot for the advice :) but im maybe thinking about buying a X7s as well and just use the X1s as a dac, is it necessary or is the X1s enough as it is ? :)

Id try for a while with the X1s only. The X7s can happen at any point in the future if you need it.
