Drop just put them up for $100 off, probably still too expensive: https://drop.com/buy/andover-audio-pm-50-headphones

Oof. I heartily disagree with almost everything here. Like you with the Golds (or whichever planar it was), apparently I got a magical pair of PM-50s. I get the veiledness perception but I still disagree a bit as to the degree of veiledness. I do not get boring out of these. I enjoy these more than the Sundaras tbqh. The PM-50s are decidedly not lo-fi to my ears, but again, maybe I got a magical pair. At $400 (like on Drop and the initial sale) they are a fair price. $500 sticker is a bit much, same with the original sundaras iirc. To me the Sundaras sound airy and anemic in comparison (and I know I have a good pair of Sundaras). Or maybe I'm just bad at listening. The PM-50s just sound sweet, full-bodied and pleasant to me. They're a good alternative or complement to the Sundaras imo. Sometimes I want an analytical session, sometimes I want a warm hug of sound. Anyways, thank you for the review :)

See this makes me worry about the quality control. If they AREN'T as bad as I made them out to be I would need a few other pairs sent in for comparison.

That's fair. If the QC is that bad there's definitely an issue, and it would definitely need to be addressed. I only have one pair though, so I can't confirm. I do understand where you're coming from with the veiledness. To me it just sounds warm and pleasant, but I could see how it could come across as veiled (especially if you've been used to / using really analytical cans and amps lately). However, if it isn't a QC issue and just a sound sig preference thing, I do believe the tuning is deliberate. They are warm and mushy. If that tuning isn't for you that's fine. Even though these aren't my daily drivers (my eikons (and soon to be elegias) are), I do use these to refresh and rewind and relax. I find it really easy to take these and a scotch to the back deck with some Grateful Dead, relaxed folk, or chill soundtracks and just unwind in the sun. That's the best way I can describe my ideal use case for these. Sometimes all I want is realllllly pleasant sounding music, and that's mostly where I get my kick out of these. Thanks for the reply! Edit : Also, running these things balanced through an Enog2 + Monolith Liquid Platinum if that matters.
