Yeah I gave these about 72 Hours of additional burn in after this review along with the Verite and it didn't fix anything. Maybe a touch smoother. But still not the Sony love.

You should start learning and using whiskey tasting notes for headphone reviews. Gives more words and adjectives to pull from.

As a big fan of the original Z7 would you recommend them if they were a cheaper price?

I wonder if the Sony’s are trying to play 5.1 surround out of a stereo speaker setup. I did that with the sound enhancement on my Yamaha receiver and immediately changed it back to Stereo

It would be a nice feature on your reviews to talk about how loud a headphone or amp can play before it starts sounding like shit. Im not into specs, but would like to know how loud something can play cleanly.

My Harman Kardon receiver has a weird headphone setting that supposedly sounds like speakers rather than headphones. I don't know what they were thinking, but the stereo setting sounds so much better.

"An enigma wrapped in an eggroll...." That alone is worth $5.00 a month.

Are the guys giving these rave reviews on YouTube just blowing smoke, or do you actually have a bad pair?

Anonymous

I would not pay that much for a Sony headphone. Many many better choices for that price range.

I mean that is legit a possibility. Bad pairs happen. My Sennheiser 380pro video had to be re-done. No way to know without multiple pairs from multiple dates of manufacture.

You know, what you are describing almost sounds like extreme dynamic range, having to adjust the volume up and down. On a hunch, I did a search and this is what appears all around the internet: "In yet another testament to Sony’s commitment to audio excellence, the Z7M2 features a wide frequency response and dynamic range along with a linear plane front wave, offering listeners realistic reproduction of 'air' around musical instruments and voices; a three dimensional and spatial sound experience existing in a live music space." That sounds like it comes from a company blurb, though I can't find it on their website. So, it sounds like what you are hearing is this supposed wide dynamic range, which is normally supposed to be a good thing. I wonder if they just took it a bit too far.

My first earphones were Sonys, many decades ago, and the real problem I experienced was that it hurt to wear them after an hour or so. They were rather uncomfortable.
