First of all, this post is for patrons only.

So I got this email from the support team which I think it is legit as you see, it's an email from the patreon.zendesk.com itself.

Which is quite interesting... Since I launched my Patreon campaign back in August 2015, I have been posting vast amount of NSFW contents as public and I have never got a notification like this, and I have been marking my Patreon as Adult Content so if that doesn't do anything, what is the point?

As of this point, too, I'm seeing various other popular NSFW artists posting straight NSFW contents without censorship as public and they didn't seem to get in troubles from this.

It's not affecting me much though, as from now on, I'd just post previews of finished arts with censorships on them and link to my Pixiv, Tumblr or anything else to show the NSFW previews. That's not gonna hurt.

The thing is, why me, and why now after all this time? Is this a sign of something terrible? I have to go back and check ALL the posts I posted as public and see if which one of them contained adult content, within 48 hours? Seriously? That would require 2 weeks, not 2 days... I already removed some of the NSFW images on the Profile page and changed the recent public posts containing NSFW previews to Patrons Only though.

I don't mind doing all that if that's the case, but I want to know the reasons behind this. I have replied to the email asking them for confirmation and explanation, but got no response after 17 hours passed :-/ I want to know if Patreon is changing (or is forced) into a new direction which does not support creators making NSFW works. If that's the case, then I will be preparing ahead for plans to handle the future changes.

Do not worry though ya'll. This is not going to affect any of the rewards in any sort of way as long as it's just this level. I'm just super curious what's going on, and I have replied to them that I will have to inform this to all my supporters as it's a big thing but since they didn't answer, I supposed it's nothing wrong to do so.

Leave your thoughts on this in the comment. Don't be harsh on the support team though. They worked their asses out and I'm pretty sure they want as fewest problems as possible going on too. It's just that this email got me in deep thinking mode and I want to hear more opinions.

Also, if you are a creator yourself, did you get this email? Or do you know anyone that got this kind of message? Please do tell.

It's easy, rules and strictness changes with time. They probably never checked you until now :D

Kind of random but who knows. Maybe it's a quality thing to prevent people from accidentally clicking onto naughty bits? Although to be fair, if people are searching specific artists (like yourself), they are obviously actively looking for naughty bits sooo eh?

fuya

That is true, but also got me worried. Does that mean someone reported my patreon page of all the people so the staff now put me on watch list?

fuya

I believe NSFW creators' pages won't show up on their recommendation tab or even linked from any other non-NSFW ones. If anyone would look up for me or any other adult content creator, they must have known what they are going into, right?

AJ

I have no experience with Patreon Support but that email doesn't look very professional to me. I would have expected something much better composed considering they want you to make such a significant change.

SlaveToTheSound

I think I saw this happen on other Patreons and they ended up having to put everything bring the reward walls. That way non-Patrons can't see NSFW content

fuya

I actually agree with this a little bit. The wording doesn't seem that thoughtful and formal, but may be it's the way Patreon communicate though. They have this friendly neighbor concept of talking with us sometimes.

fuya

If it's happening to some other creators, too then it's really legit then I guess. Oh man so much troubles XD

Patreon has some strict policies about creators of adult contents as far as I know. It just surprises me they sent you an email now all of a sudden (=゚ω゚)

fuya

I'm sure they have been really strict about "child porn" contents and that is why I completely redirect any of my works that could possibly be seen as underage fanarts elsewhere, but since the beginning they have stated that they don't have anything against adult contents as long as they don't cross that line. I guess things are changed now.

Only thing that jumps out as potentially being in violation of their policies would be your banner, and that's it :c

fuya

I removed some other things. There were 4-5 other small images showing nipples and genitals on my Profile/About Me page.

It's dumb that patreon basically shafts nsfw artists and cosplayers despite some of them being their highest earners. I don't see how this is a kids website considering you probably shouldn't be using it unless you have a job that can support your monthly payments.

Yo-Nashi

I never receive an e-mail like this and I post uncensored illustration public. But now I'm a little bit scared. I think that has no sense to ask to remove the image if the account is marked has NSFW.

Anonymous

Really?! that's bs... What is the point of having our account set to NSFW when we cannot even have R18 drawings on our main pages... I probably won't do anything until I get an email about it ┐( ̄ヘ ̄)┌

I've seen a bunch of people who mentioned something like this, so they post preview on Pixiv or Tumblr. That really sucks. But it's best to be cautious

Too bad their FAQ doesn't list a "Last Updated" timestamp since I don't know if the following verbiage existed from the beginning: (unless I can trust Firefox's Modified Date, then the page was updated on August 4, 2017, 6:24:39 PM, so just before your email?) "Additionally, creator posts that show sexual or violent content in realistic detail must be marked as patron-only. Patron-only posts are hidden from public view so only consenting patrons will have access." source: https://patreon.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/204605905-Should-my-creator-page-be-marked-as-adult-content-

Support faggot arse-shit Team ... they should just leave you alone

fuya

I know. I don't agree with this either, but may be they have been getting targeted by those SJWs lately so they want things to go safely? I don't know, but at least I'd love to hear their reasons.

fuya

I don't think they'd ever shut down a page without warning at all so as long as you don't get messages like this, it's still fine.

fuya

ikr it's weird XD There's no way anyone would stumble upon our pages not knowing it's not NSFW.

fuya

Yeah this would eventually reduce my exposure, but I can live with that. I have been not posting any nipples or genitals as public at all in the early patreon campaign. I'd just have to go back to that just to be safe.

fuya

Thank you pengin senshi! This is really informative. I think I have read this page before and didn't recognize those phrases... Well they might have changed it and I have not checked. Anyway, this is fine. If the rules are set, I will follow. Still confused though.

fuya

As much as I hate this to happen, I don't think it's the supports' fault though. They just work following the guidelines. It's their head decision to go non explicit to blame, but I'll follow them as long as it's not more troublesome than this.
