Ancient Dungeon Entrance (Patreon)

As we approached, the tips of the Jagged Rise could be seen over the surrounding forest canopy. Its menacing silhouette could be made out as the trees parted their branches, providing glimpses of the serrated mountaintop in sharp contrast to the peaceful flora that currently surrounded the party.

Deceiving was the tranquil terrain that surrounded the peaks. Despite the relative serenity that the surrounding lands expressed, the Jagged Rise's threatening demeanor warded away the passing traveler. However, in our case, the sawtoothed peaks guided us towards our destination.

Within the Jagged Rise, at the entrance of the Climbing Brook, an entrance was concealed, only to appear as a mundane mountainside cave to passersby. Upon closer inspection, however, this cave was anything but. Tiled floors gave way to hallways and alcoves, the entrance of a grandiose labyrinth that few have encountered, and none have navigated and lived to return.

Our purpose was simple. Explore this twisting, rambling structure, and return with our report. We had no doubts about our ability to explore, but while it remained unspoken, our hopes of return dwindled as we traveled ever closer to our destination. An aura of despair seemed to emanate from our objective, and its power increased as we closed the distance.

Now, nearly at the entrance, as we beheld each of our comrades faces, what we saw mirrored our own disposition. Sullen, pale, leached of the good and hopefulness that we embodied at the start of our quest. While our resolve to carry out our mission remained, not a drop of enthusiasm survived the journey.
