Creation’s hammer twirled in his hand, he dispelled the mana shield around Sofia and called out to her.

Alright lassy, get naked, it’s your turn on the chopping block.

“E- Excuse me?”

Clint raised an eyebrow at Sofia’s confusion, What? I’m about to make you a new body, you think I can do that through your clothes? The only reason skelly-boy didn’t have to take his clothes off is because he didn’t have any to begin with.

“I… Does everyone have to do that?”

Yeah. Clint answered with a shrug. Most people who can reach this level aren’t really that prude, you know. No one in your whole group had any issues with it.

Seeing that Sofia was still hesitant, Clint rolled his eyes, and his appearance changed. I can do that, if that helps. He said with a more feminine voice, his beard gone and his appearance now changed to that of a big muscular woman wearing the same clothes.

“...” Sofia exhaled. “I don’t know if that makes it any better. Well… I need to keep a glove on, and I can’t let go of Anna’s dagger. Is that fine?”

The dagger is fine but the glove and any ring or such all have to go. You can just keep it in your hand if you must but you can’t be wearing anything that’ll hinder my work.

“Alright… What about my left eye, it’s actually a storage item, will it cause issues?” Sofia asked.

That’s part of your blueprint already so nothing to worry about. Old lich does some great work.

Sofia gave her storage ring and her armguard to Pareth, and she stored the rest of her things including her clothes in her eye, then she flew to the center of the spherical chamber.

No need to be so embarrassed, really. We Gods get none of your reproductive urges… Well, except for a certain solar freak… Anyway, we’re going to go in steps here, there’s too much going on with you so I can’t do it all in one go.

Sofia nodded, she had a hard time looking at female Clint in the eyes.

I’ll be getting your mana heart about fifty percent of the way there, then I’ll pull all the mana I can, Kyle is already up there to make sure this goes well. This is where your Scribe’ll have to work fast to do its thing while I work on your race evolution. When that’s done, I’m teleporting us as far away from the planet as I can and finishing up with your heart.

“W- Wait, teleporting away?”

Yes. We can’t have you level up here. We might actually kill people with the mana wave from the fusion.

“Alright then… I’m ready.”

Great. Let’s get started.

Just like Pareth before, Sofia was locked in place by mana restraints, and she felt all of her passive and classless skills losing power one by one.

Clint brought Sofia’s mana heart before her chest, and raised his hammer.

A torrential burst of mana hit Sofia from above, and the hammer of Creation came down, hitting her luminous mana heart. Sofia felt the impact propagate through her body and soul like a wave of power scrambling her insides.

You alright? This was the warm up. This is gonna hurt. Clint warned as his hammer rose.

“I’m fine,” Sofia mumbled in response.

Good.

The hammer came down again, and Sofia’s mind went blank from the pain.

What happened to her was the same thing that had happened to Pareth before, her body was pulverized in billions of fine particles before snapping back into place, and the pain of the deconstruction and reconstruction was excruciating.

The hammer was coming again. Sofia's instincts were to avoid it by any means necessary, her body acted on its own to try to find a way out, but she now understood why there were mana restraints to keep her firmly in place. She couldn’t move in the slightest.

Her consciousness slipped every time Creation brought down the hammer.

Every time she came to, she felt that her body was slightly different, until the entirety of her thoughts were captured by the terrifying hammer again.

After what felt like an eternity, the hammer stopped.

Clint looked tired, beads of sweat rolling down his still female face, he took a second to compose himself. There we have it. Race evolution complete.

The God’s words shook Sofia out of her torpor. “Wait… Really? But the… My Scribe absorbing the mana?”

Yeah, that’s done, you were out of it for most of the process, though.

I was?!

You woke up about once every ten hits but that never lasted long. Honestly it’s commendable that you ever woke up at all, most people with an SSS rank heart just never come to until the process is over.

It took a gargantuan amount of effort for Sofia to gather her thoughts into a coherent whole, and a few system windows appeared in front of her.

[Race evolution complete!]

[Please choose a name for your new race]

[Available names:

  • Essence Eater

  • Primeval Exarch

  • Lumian

  • Great unhinged luminescent bone calamity of the gods and reality as it stands as well as everything in between]

The last name made Sofia giggle. Her voice was still weak but she had to say something, “Really Clint… So much for giving me a choice. I get it, Lumian is fine.”

Great choice, that was also my pick, Clint answered with a smirk.

“Do I at least still look like myself?”

You tell me.

A large mirror appeared in front of Sofia, allowing her to view her entire body. Her mana heart was still in front of her, glowing fiercely, which made it hard to see too well, but she could see that she was mostly unchanged save for a few key details. First and most shocking, a pair of horns sat on top of her head, they looked like ever burning flames made of light, constrained in the general shape of two hand-length pointy horns. They grew from under her hair, splitting them apart. Her hair was the second thing which had changed, they had become solid strands of golden light much like her mana heart, and they floated unnaturally behind her, as if rustled by a wind that did not exist. Her eyelashes and brows were similar, though with a much fainter glow.

Lastly the final big change were the runes from [Runeforged Overlord] they used to only cover her top half, but they now extended down to her lower body all the way to the tip of her toes.

So?

“The horns are a bit strange,” Sofia commented, uncertain of what she thought about them, she wanted to touch them but she was still restrained. “Beyond that, I don’t mind it. What’s up with the runes, though? Did you upgrade my skill?”

Sofia could feel she had changed but she currently had no real control over her body or her magic, it was hard to tell what was what, she could not even feel her mana.

Clint laughed. No, but these runes do serve a purpose, though you’ll have to discover that by yourself, lassy. Think of it as your race’s hidden passive. Speaking of, let me help your scribe update your racial skills.

A mana pearl quickly took form in Clint’s left hand, and he slowly pushed it into Sofia’s mouth.

Sofia realized then that she could not open her status sheet or interact with the system at all, and new system windows opened by themselves.

[Race: Lumian]

Prerequisite conditions for evolution:

  • Human, Exidian, or Demon race

  • Carry 10 or more divine essence

  • [Venerable physique of the primeval void] last step second realm

  • SSS Rank mana heart or above

  • Tier 3 Scribe

  • Has entered the primeval void at least once

Racial features :

Dead light: Your hair, teeth, nalls and bones are made of tangible solid light. After its permanent death, your entire body becomes a shining light that never fades away.

Mana weave muscular system: Your muscles and tendons are made of tightly interwoven mana threads capable of rapid self-repair as long as you have mana available.

Exhaust: You bear horns of divine light that burn away the superfluous divine energy held within your body.

Hereditary Physique: Offsprings require 10 divine essences and are born as the Lumian’s original race with the [Venerable physique of the primeval void] skill at the first step of the light forging realm. They automatically evolve to a Lumian when the prerequisite conditions are all reunited.

??? : Strange runes cover your lower body. What could they possibly do?

Racial skills :

[Edgewalker]: You are immune from slipping out of reality.

[Pillar of creation]: When your Health goes from 30% to 20%, your skin starts to crack, revealing the primordial light hidden within you. In this state, you will rapidly lose the ability to move, but your spellcasting range is multiplied by your remaining percentage of mana (from 0 to 100 times), and you take halved damages from all sources.

Healing back up over 30% will end this state.

[Mockery of the Divine]: Your body feeds on the essence of the divine, pîercing the realms through them, and keeping them hostage within the shadow of mana core prisons. By arranging the mana cores within your body in the shape of divine constellations, you can gain a limited hold onto their absolute domain.

Sofia quickly read through the racial traits with a smile on her face, and she raised her eyes to tell Clint what she thought of it, only for her to see a raised hammer.

Her mind blanked again.

Thanks for the chapter!

Wolfknap

Gods this weekend felt so long, thanks for the chapter

Venerable Ro

"Unhinged Bone Calamity" can be her nickname, itd be a shame to discard it entirely.

Clara

Exhaust sounds like it will flare up in especially cool moments

Shelbo

Ooooh I’m liking this new race, especially the horns

Tavis

Thanks for the chapter!

Vettu

Are her horns actually solid to the touch, or will the light-flames(?) just flow around whatever passes through them?

Jeanean

The fuck what? What the hell did he turn Sophia into?

ArtTheGreat

Did her scribe grab enough mana to do what it wanted? Or did it have to compromise? I’m also curious where the 30 essences thing the scribe mentioned at some point will become relevant, or was that abandoned because she couldn’t gather that many before the race evolution?

phantom

So 10 essences are needed to make a baby. So expensive. Can't they get at least some of those on their own?

Wensber

Thanks for the chapter!

Nicolae

This is going to leave her with PTSD.

Cyclone001

Riské title. You'd think Sofia would occasionally use those pain resit pills Alith cooked up at times like these. Anyways, the race is interesting, but if someone can help me understand exactly what [mockery of the devine] does, that would be appreciated.

Wensber

If Clint was trying to make a race that rivals elves or vampires, then there has to be some way to get a decent sized population. If they had to get all their essence from others, there is no way the gods would part with enough essence.

Custus

Thanks for the chapter!

Mornn

He did, or there wouldn't be a [Mockery of the divine] skill ;) And the 30 is just to unlock the third VPPV realm, they can wait

Gallagher.563

I wonder if her new race will enable her to manipulate mana like dragons and angels Also not certain what the point of this is: Dead light: Your hair, teeth, nalls and bones are made of tangible solid light. After its permanent death, your entire body becomes a shining light that never fades away.

Vettu

I was thinking more along the lines of ramming into enemies, possibly when in her apostle form, but you know what? That works too

LenaraSys

I assume we'll learn all about that in time. I'd be surprised if anyone but the author knows at this point.

Mornn

I mean... I can imagine someone making an educated guess and getting it right, it's not that complex :p

NDF 07

She now can use her essences has the dots in a connect the dots game inside her body and if the picture they make is a Divine rune she gets some amount of power over the domain of the God the rune belongs too

InfernalDrake

Doubt it. Dragons do it by having an astronomically high natural investment in one of the sub stats, Aura, I think. And pretty sure Angels are able to tap directly into the System’s Resources/Reserves to do what they do.

Beeees!

I think ima need a picture of new sophia to fully understand

Clara

Hmm I wonder if she'll have a cool new version of her own skull to add to her skull choir. Would be lame if the choir could only have 1 type of her skull and it's stuck with the inferior bone version rather than the upgraded light version

Jonathan Wint

I think the GODS do not get much of a choice. Read those powers... [Mockery of the divine]: Your body feeds on the essence of the divine, pîercing the realms through them, and keeping them hostage within the shadow of mana core prisons. By arranging the mana cores within your body in the shape of divine constellations, you can gain a limited hold onto their absolute domain.] I think she can MILK them! 0-O

Kota

Yeah, I doubt there will ever be a decent sized population of Lumians - the way I read this, they're basically mortals who have begun to grasp the Divine, the missing link between the mortal and higher (or lower) realms. The requirements to become one are almost impossible to meet, and procreation doesn't seem much easier. Ten Divine Essences are indeed a ton, given even major gods seemingly can part with only a fraction of that at most, so even if Lumians somehow can produce their own essence, I doubt they can outproduce the gods themselves to such a degree that building a decent-sized population becomes feasible. No, if Clint wants to create a species to rival Elves and Vampires, his approach was probably quality over quantity, and he won't measure his success in population size, political influence, or territory held. I'd expect them to end up more like the dragons in the end - few and far between, never met in large groups, but individually, some of the scariest powerhouses around. The main difference being that Dragons are born fearsome, while a Lumian's power is mostly earned, forged through fire and impossible hardship. That way, Lumians could indeed become fabled creatures of legend, even if there are never more than you could count on one hand.

Kota

@NDF 07 As to what exactly that entails, I'm sure we'll find out eventually...

SDCard

Thanks for the chapter! The fourth race name was clearly the best option :D

Kota

A few notes: - Geez, Lumians are no joke. And no freebies, apparently - even if you're born to a Lumian who somehow could give up 10 (!) Divine Essences, you still have to meet all the prerequisites yourself, the only help you get is you don't need to gather the Divine Essences yourself and you get VVPV already evolved. The rest isn't exactly easy to meet, though - if you see someone bearing the golden horns, they sure have earned them and are pretty darn dangerous. - Do we know what exactly "the primeval void" is, the realm you need to have visited to become a Lumian? If I had to guess, I'd say it's a different name for either the Margin or the realm of the Deep, but maybe it was already explained and I just forgot... - I absolutely love this part: "After its permanent death, your entire body becomes a shining light that never fades away." Even if it never comes up, this adds such an amazing touch of mythos and legend; truly makes the Lumians feel special. - [Pillar of creation] could be a double-edged sword, and against close-range combatants, I think it might be really just downside? Either way, if your mana's empty with this active, you're pretty much screwed. Makes me wonder though - will this trigger (or remain active) in Sofia's demon form? Or can she get out of it by activating her demon form? - The Demon Race being eligible for the Lumian evolution is interesting. For one, does this imply there is an entire race of Demons, outside of the Apostles of the Recessed? Furthermore, since this race seems to be based off Sofia, Demons being eligible for this evolution would imply that despite Sofia's apostle form being "only" a transformation skill, enough of her seems to be demonic that the race creation recognizes that. Is Sofia part demon now, even when she isn't transformed? - I'd assume Exidians are also eligible because they're the only ones still close enough to human to count. But again, that would imply that Demons are similarly close to what Sofia (as the race "blueprint") is, even when she isn't transformed, right? - If someone else wanted to become a Lumian without having Sofia as a mother, I'd think the hardest requirement would probably be VPPV. Getting the skill in the first place should be damn near impossible, and then taking all the required steps, collecting 10 Divine Essnces before the third trial? Unlikely. Would be cool if someone does manage, though - imagine Sofia's reaction if one day, she meets another Lumian down the road... - Clint needing to basically teleport them into Deep Space because the resulting mana wave could kill people is pretty hilarious, and cool. Really drives home the level of forces involved here. - Thinking about how painful the reforging is, we should remember Sofia is a person who extracted her own skull with a knife while fully conscious. That she could take, but this knocked her out cold. Yeah, that's pretty damn painful. Also makes me wonder how she could even feel so much pain, given how her pain receptors would have been utterly obliterated for most of the process. I like to imagine that some strain is felt directly in the soul, without taking a detour through the body. Mabye it was something like this? Anyway, fantastic chapter!

Phsteven

I assume that since her blood and nerves are already light, her race has changed to adapt other parts of human anatomy to be light as well. Hair is basically dead cells, the same as nails, and while bones aren’t technically dead in the body (due to the marrow which helps with creating blood iirc) Sofia doesn’t use her bone marrow anymore due to her blood being light. So all of the “dead” things on/of her body are now light like her blood and nerves.

Phsteven

Sofia’s new look, while I’m sure will be quite stunning, is going to make any stealth mission very difficult.

Logen Felxon

Sofia's future seem pretty damn bright.

phantom

Geting divine essence from others would be simpler than getting 10 divine essence at the start. One is getting it later and one is getting it right away. and if they don't reach SSS rank that is 10 essence lost and no new Lumian.

phantom

Dragons do not need a higher aura stat. It is a natural affinity and they invest in aura to improve upon i. Her sister gained huge control over mana when her signature skill turned her into a dragon. Also I doubt Sofia would gain control over mana. She just got a skill for not needing to rely on mana in the environment.

Phsteven

What is up with the i in "pîercing"? How does that happen?

Mrluigi1111111

Yeah, Sun is jealous. On the topic of nearing the end of the arc, please please PLEASE can we get a chapter from Ihuarah's POV? He's got an interesting backstory, presumably unique magic, is just plain charismatic as hell, and yet he's been present in maybe 20 chapters of the last 250. Literally off having an entire 1-2 year long adventure as well as courting a possible wife with barely a peep. It's implied he's gonna be present for most of the upcoming arc along with Cynthia, but I think an interlude to reintroduce his abilities and personality is necessary due to how long it's been.

Tejing

Couldn't she have used her exoskeleton? It's technically part of her body, so it should have been fine, right? Not much to say on appearance. Sounds cool, but yeah, the horns will probably take a bit of getting used to. Her bones being made of solid light was definitely on my list of likely effects. Sounds cool, but I wonder what the practical benefits are. Are her bones harder to break or something, maybe? Rapid self-repair of muscles sounds quite valuable. It'll make it hard to disable her. I wonder what the "superfluous divine energy" is about? That doesn't seem to have been necessary thus far, but I assume we'll find out later that it was a very good idea. So she passes on VPPV to her children at the lightforging realm. Cool. Also I assume this means she won't have kids unless she wants to, since she'd have to willingly give up the 10 essence required? Runes are a big mystery. Might be a synergy with Runeforged Overlord, or might be something else entirely. Edgewalker isn't perfectly clear what it's referring to, but I have a feeling this is going to really help her. Pillar of Creation... sounds bad, honestly. Losing the ability to move when at low health is a massive negative, even with taking halved damage. And I really don't see bonus casting range as being what you need in that scenario... what was Clint thinking? Mockery of the Divine sounds like it could be insanely good. Looking forward to this being fleshed out more in the future. As a side note... not a fan of Patreon putting "related posts" at the bottom of posts now... the site was already slow enough. I don't want yet more badly written javascript slowing it down more and eating a ton of RAM. I also would really rather still be able to skip to the bottom of the page to find the comments quickly... Patreon, somehow managing to make their site worse with every update. Corrections: Most people who can reach this level aren’t really that prude, you know. prude -> prudish (prude is a noun, you need the adjective) They grew from under her hair, splitting them apart. them -> it (hair is a substance noun, and thus not plural) they had become solid strands of golden light they -> it (again, hair is singular) OR change the whole thing to: the strands were now made of golden light were the runes from [Runeforged Overlord] they used to only cover Overlord] they -> Overlord]. They (separate the run-on sentence) Your hair, teeth, nalls and bones are made of nalls -> nails Offsprings require 10 divine essences Offsprings -> Offspring (it's one of those weird words where the plural is the same as the singular) and you take halved damages from all sources. damages -> damage (damage is usually a substances noun. you only hear about "damages" in legal contexts, really) pîercing the realms through them, pîercing -> piercing

Tejing

Mornn's french iirc, probably an easy typo to make on his keyboard.

Tejing

I think the "primeval void" is very likely the Margin. Sofia's never actually been to the plane of the Deep, so it shouldn't be that.

Phsteven

Makes sense. It also answers why a few words are "pluralized" in this and other chapters ex: damages (context) (you take halved damages from all sources.) I don't consider the instances as incorrect because they work ish, but generally it would just be written as damage. Offsprings is another example of a pluralized word that generally isn't in English. It makes sense, but sounds wrong to my brain as I'm pretty sure that offspring does not have a pluralized version. Like moose, the plural is just offspring. Example: They have many offspring.

DoomSongs

I'm just now realizing that Sofia might be able to grant VPPV (or other skills) to others in the future with the mana pearls she makes. Needing 10 divine essence still means that there still won't be many Lumians even with VPPV being more accessible. Although as other commenters have pointed out Lumians might be able to either take essence form the gods whose rune is known, or make their own somehow.

phantom

You know I just realized. According to this chapter title Sofia stripped, got pounded, and as a result got the ability to birth a new species.

Tejing

Yeah, ever since we saw system folks bestowing stuff through mana pearls, I've been wondering if Sofia could do the same thing. We'll probably find out in time.

Phsteven

I completely agree with you on Patreon's amazing ability to make their shit website even worse. As for the range augment, you need to open your mind to the possibilities. Angel's Bolt falls off after a certain distance traveled, but if she were to cast one at great distance and kept pumping mana into it until she hit under 30% health, the range of it would increase by a percentage based on how much mana she has left. Could be useful. She might be able to smite someone on planet while she is standing on the moon...

Tejing

I can see how it could perhaps be abused if she sets it off on purpose, but when her health gets low the normal way, you know, from enemies hitting her, it's very unlikely that long range is what would be useful to her. Movement is far more likely to be what she needs.

Mornn

Hey you know, it is what it is. Think Moon gave the Vampires a literal incurable curse for fun? :p

Mornn

Yeah... If sometimes I use a word that doesn't even exist, which happens, it's 100% because it feel like a right word in English but it's actually just French X_x

Mornn

I'll be putting up a poll to let you all decide what you want most likely

Logen Felxon

Yeah this is true Songy, I'm sure that whenever Sofia's involved the mood will always be Light.

Gallagher.563

Based on the requirements I see Sofia remaining the sole member of her race for a long time. These racial requirements are just impossible for anyone else. [Race: Lumian] Prerequisite conditions for evolution:  Human, Exidian, or Demon race Carry 10 or more divine essence [Venerable physique of the primeval void] last step second realm SSS Rank mana heart or above Tier 3 Scribe Has entered the primeval void at least once

Jeanean

Honestly, I don't think its actually that hard (relatively) to become a Lumian. The hardest part is going to be the SSS rank Mana-heart. But considering that any other born Lumian would be Sophia's child, she could probably help them pretty easily with the remaining requirements.

Jonathan Wint

"We Gods get none of your reproductive urges… Well, except for a certain solar freak." I Wonder Who he could be Talking about. We got no Idea do we SUN?

E

Pillar of Creation loses its downside when you combine it with a teleport. I bet there's a connection between Edgewalker, Pillar of Creation, and the new runes. I suspect a signature of the Lumian race will be the ability to "instantly appear" (special kind of teleport?) in the same way the Gods move as observed by Sofia. I'm already envisioning Sofia dropping a couple calamity skeletons then teleporting to another continent while watching the fight through bone tokens.

Tejing

Don't forget the starting step of the Boundless Space realm of VPPV gives the ability to "perform quantic transpositions", which certainly sounds teleport-y. That may be what ends up offsetting the downside. But we'll have to wait and see.

Songy

Don't forget that she must look so [Charismatic] now, that nobody will be suprised when she actually starts farting rainbows :P

Tejing

According to the description of her False Immortality rune: You no longer emit light. Not sure how that'll work with her race, necessarily, but it probably helps at least some. Also there's always the Master Thief title.

Clara

Oh btw, how does the mana pearl organ interact with her new race?

Logen Felxon

I was about to ask the most internet centric, not real life having type question. "Isn't that what those of the female variety do already?" But I know better. I mean, that's a question one don't usually see many raise with those that are upon the path to apotheosis. "What does your poots look like." Anyhue, hope you're doing well, and that your farts are blessedly exactly as Radiant as you want them to be.

E

Her muscles and such are physical mana now so no doubt that pearl organ is the same. Also, based on others speculation, I'm starting to think the T3 Scribe is going to start printing system skills for Sofia through her pearl as she false-levels the same way the boulder bro did.

Clara

That's a fun idea, very Sofia. I was thinking about how with Sofia focusing so hard on mana, eventually when she's lvl500 or whatever, her pearls might be growing so fast that it would be a bother to deal with them. Maybe by then she could modify the skill to instead let her solidify mana as a generic ability? Spread those pearl veins through her whole body?

Rainnyth

yes! HORNS! thank you for the chapter! lot of fun goodies to explore!

Beeees!

Is there a break after this chap?

Taylor

It looks like Sofia was erased by the rune. Thankfully she can revert this with the glove she insisted on keeping.

Gallagher.563

Did all this Mana form a singularity?

ShotoGun

“ Your hair, teeth, nalls and bones” should be “nails”

Inv7ctus

this is the coolest shit, this is why i love this book. Feels so good to back on patreon again.

Inv7ctus

I have a hunch, the Exhaust ability will end up being crucial during the usage of mockery of the divine.
