The pearl stands for the world, the heavens, and an eye, representing the many forms of

knowledge, never fully attainable.

Even knowing that, the All-Knowing's hand grasps for it.

– The Scepter of the All-Knowing

Thank you so much for enrolling in Lore MasterClass!

We have a very long journey ahead of us – there’s a lot to discuss and dissect – but hopefully it’ll be one full of discovery and enlightenment, too.

Ahead of term officially starting next Monday, I wanted to formally welcome you all, and share a list of useful resources to aid your research in the months ahead. (And for those who want to swot up right now.)

Item Descriptions

The links below are all great ways of raiding the in-game text to quickly find references relating to specific topics or characters.

Want to quickly read everything related to Marika, this is how you do it.

All of them contain the same information, but organise it in different ways. Each one is useful depending on what you're looking for.

  • Elden Ring Text Explorer: Not the most attractive of pages admittedly but this is just a really easy way of searching all the text in the game quickly.
  • Elden Ring Lore Tagged Database: Some wonderful person has taken all in-game text and dialogue and made a Notion database, creating a much more sophisticated version of the above. What I really like about this resource is the tagging. It’s a useful way to quickly drill down through the different types of text found in Elden Ring. So you can quickly pull all the dialogue relating to Marika but then get more specific: want to see if Marika turns up in any sorcery descriptions? You can do just that using the tags. This is a great way of sifting through all this wealth of information and discovering connections.
  • Library of the All-Knowing: This groups information by characters and entities. So if you want to, say, read all about the Empyreans, this handily pulls together all the relevant text. You could do this yourself using the resources above, but this is just a much nicer way to quickly read up on a topic. Currently it only includes Weapons, Spells, and Spirit Ashes, so it’s incomplete as of right now, but it’s definitely a nice way to browse this information.

Assets

I love this resource. Someone's created a reservoir of all the in-game assets: so all icons, weapons, talismans – pretty much everything – have been extracted from the game files.

So if we want to take a closer look at an image, this is the best way to do so. Definitely beats squinting at the game on your telly.

I'm sure we'll use these in the months ahead to create some really useful diagrams.

YouTube Channels

I’m sure most of you are already subscribed to all of these channels, and many more.

In the months ahead, I want us to share links to other creators, but here are the obvious picks to get you started if you're new to lore research.

  • VaatiVidya: I don’t really think Vaati needs any introduction here.
  • Zullie the Witch: Zullie does a great job of digging deep into the game and unearthing interesting details unnoticed by other people.
  • BonfireVN: Want to take a closer look at these worlds? This is the channel to check out.

What’s Next?

Dispensing with the jokey academic presentation for a second: I just want to say I’m really excited to embark on this project with you all.

It’s something a little bit different for me, and RKG, but I think it’s also an opportunity to use Patreon to do something really special and unique.

I want Lore MasterClass to be fun and interactive. If you want to share ideas and contribute, I’d love to hear from you in the comments on these posts and of course in the dedicated Discord channel. But if you’d rather just quietly enjoy the journey, that’s more the welcome too. This is for everyone.

I want this to be a space for us all to express and share our passion for the world building of Elden Ring. I think it's quite special. There’s so much to decode and correlate – and my hope is that if you don't know much about Elden Ring’s lore, this will give you the best and most detailed introduction.

And if you do already know the lore, my hope is that together we’ll generate new ways of talking about and understanding what’s going on, or at the very least have some thoughtful discussions about the finer points.

I’ll be in the Discord channel regularly from now on, and you’ll be hearing from me on Monday to determine the focus of our first class.

But if you've got any questions, please leave them in the comments below and I'll get back to you as soon as possible.

Thank you,

Krupa
