Monthly Update: Dec 2022 (Patreon)

Hey everyone,

Welcome to the final monthly update of 2022. As with all messages sent around this time of year, it’s only natural to want to take stock and put time passed into context.

This year was all about getting to a place. Ever since we launched RKG it never felt like we had a time to just focus on the work. Initially, it was a case of making things while figuring out how to run things independently. Then we moved into our first studio space, which we could never fully use because of the pandemic. We had to figure out how to run all of this in a very different way. But this year has been all about progress, and we think finally, as a patron or viewer, you can start to see the realisation of some long-held ambitions.

We spent the first half of this year in post-production on Retry: Demon’s Souls, because we wanted to set a new benchmark for what can be done with a Let’s Play, and a new standard for ourselves. At the same time, we moved into a much better, more suitable studio space which we hope to call home for many years to come. We still need to equip it properly to make it not only a place that allows us to create things more easily but also a home, which we’ve not really had since we started. It’ll make a big difference, and it already has.

We took a short break after finishing Retry: Demon’s Souls. In truth, it was a monumental task to make that show like we did and while we couldn't be prouder of what we achieved, it did us in for a bit. Since then, we’ve committed to a new way of working and filming more regularly. For the first time ever, we had a healthy lead on the channel, so we could focus on other things without the pressure to publish. This is the only sustainable way of working long-term, and in the future, it’ll enable us to create not only more of the things you already love but it’ll allow us to experiment, which will ultimately keep the channel interesting and alive.

So to end, let’s have a little look ahead to next year. Back with the Bakers and SPOOKIES: The Quarry will draw to a close early in January. Up next is a four-episode Retry miniseries featuring Resident Evil 8’s recently-released DLC, Shadows of Rose.

Patrons on the Early Access tier and above will receive all 4 episodes of the mini-series on Saturday, January 14th at 6pm GMT. It’s an interesting addition to RE8’s story, which sees us play as Ethan’s daughter, Rose, as she goes in search of answers pertaining to her mushroom Dad. It’s a varied series, full of action and some pretty intense screaming (mainly Powers). We’re excited for you to see it.

The SPOOKIES: Double-Bill is all filmed and we're currently in the edit on that before moving onto filming SPOOKIES: Dead Space, which is something people have been asking us to do for years and we absolutely cannot wait. 

We’ve got lots of plans for next year, but we’re happy to be able to communicate to you much further in advance what’s to come so you have a better idea of what RKG will look like in 2023. There’s a lot more we’re working on currently that we’ll be able to share in the New Year.
