Monthly Update: August 2022 (Patreon)

Hey everyone,

Here’s a little update from the last month about what we’ve been up to and what we’re working on next.

Retry: Cuphead

We’ve filmed the new Cuphead series in its entirety. All the episodes have had a first and second draft of their edits finished, and we’re currently in the process of adding lots of little extras and polish.

The series is going to be 6 episodes long, with each one containing its own boss and we’ll also be tackling the King’s Gauntlet across these episodes, too. If you don’t know what that is, think of it as a challenge mode specifically designed to test parrying. What could go wrong there?

These episodes will all be available in one drop for Early Access, Producers and Posh Slugs completely ad-free. Supporters at these tiers will also get access to a Patreon-exclusive episode where Rory takes on two bosses from the original game – it’s been nearly five years since he last played, so we thought some training was necessary. It was.

We’ll have more into on this series and when it'll be available coming soon.

Studio Update

Finally, the boxes have been unpacked. We technically moved in back in February, but it’s only now that we’ve really had the time to spend sorting out everything.

We’re going to be filming the first RKG Studio vlogs in September, giving you a tour of the space as it currently stands and going through our plans. (You can then compare that with the vlog we'll put out in November, where hopefully it’s all beautifully realised after everything has gone to plan.)

But the goal currently is to transform Room 1 into a dedicated podcast room, while Room 2 will be a permanent Let’s Play and livestream studio.

The main area we want to turn into a comfy editing area where we can also hang out, and maybe even stream or film for the right type of project.

Patrons, you’ll get a much more in-depth look at the space in the first behind-the-scenes vlog coming soon.

Krupa & Gav Head to the US of A

As this update publishes, Krupa and Gav will be flying out to Orlando to attend Halloween Horror Nights. They'll be making a special one-off video documenting their traumatic time out at the event, which we'll be sharing with you very soon. They might even get to meet their personal hero, Michael Myers, whose life they documented in 12-part podcast series. Michael.

We'll also be recording a special on-location episode of Shield Up, hopefully recorded in a location that has beer and wings.

Future Series

We’ve talked a lot in the past about how we want to make high-quality videos that people rewatch, rather than content for content’s sake. The only downside to this approach is it takes time. Unlike a lot of other channels of comparable size, we don’t have backroom staff working on things and we like to oversee every aspect of what we make. It allows us to shape it beyond the moment we’re in front of the camera.

We've been quite open about this approach around the release of Retry: Demon's Souls. We've also spoken about how the new studio is going to change what we do going forward.

From September, we’re fully switching to a new way of working behind the scenes, which is going to allow us to communicate to you – RKG patrons and viewers – what’s coming way further in advance. Basically, we’re going to go all Kevin Feige and do a nice little roadmap graphic with a starfield backdrop.

We’ve already lined up the next 5 series, in addition to discussing what we’ll be doing with Retry: Elden Ring, which we will start filming sometime early in 2023. It’s going to be our biggest adventure ever, and we want to make it something truly memorable, produced at the new standard we set with Retry: Demon’s Souls.

We obviously won’t be the first playthrough of the game, but our aim is to make the definitive playthrough of Elden Ring, a series that matches the epic scale and sense of adventure of the game itself.

Upcoming Producer Streams

Krupa’s Dark Souls 3 Platinum – 17th September, 2022 @ 4pm BST | 11am ET | 8am PT | 1am AEST

We're back at the grindstone for another session. Last time did we experience tremendous good fortune grinding ghrus for Swordgrass, or did we experience first-hand the power of belief?

I like to believe in the latter. If you want to join me, as we go in search of Proofs of a Concord Kept by murdering Silver Knights for hours on end, and participate in a group experiment into the very nature of belief and positive energy, then join me for Grind-a-Thon 2: Grind Harder.

I'll also be taking breaks from those pesky Silver Knights to help you defeat any boss you may be stuck on or just fancy fighting alongside me and the Slug Army. I'll send out more details on this in a couple of weeks. Krupa x

Gav Plays The Last of Us (that new one on PS5) - 30th September @ 7pm BST | 2pm ET | 11am PT | 4am AEST

Back in April 2020, I streamed playing The Last of Us DLC for the first time, and it was one of the best laughs I've had streaming by myself. It actually made me realise that I enjoy doing that because there's something really unique about experiencing huge gaming moments LIVE together.

We get asked by the community to play The Last of Us a lot, and while it might not be right for a series, I'm really excited to have a first look at this new version with you fine slugs.

This'll be a multi-part stream that will continue until we're finished, so if you're new to The Last of Us, a fan that wants to see me tear up when the things happen, or just fancy seeing the sexy new PS5 version, this one is for you.

Posh Slug September Q&A: 19 September @ 6pm BST | 1pm ET | 10am PT

We'll be seeing out the month as always by getting nice and intimate with our Posh Slugs so if there's anything you'd like to ask us about any of the above or whatever else is on your mind, pop this one in your diary.
