Monthly Update: July 2022 (Patreon)

Hey everyone,

Starting this month, we're going to change these monthly posts a little bit – from being a straight-up 'what's coming this month' to more of a wider, behind-the-scenes update.

We want to give you more of an insight on what we're working on, and what that's going to mean for the months ahead, rather than just serving up the end product.

Grand Designs

After we released Retry: Demon’s Souls, we took some much-needed time off – we worked on the production of that series solidly for 7 months (with many more months of planning) – but now we’re back in the new studio and there’s lots we want to do.

We say ‘new studio’ but we’ve had the keys since February, but because the priority was always finishing Retry: Demon's Souls, and making it the best series we could, the studio is still pretty much a blank space. 

So we need to spend the next couple of months figuring out what we want to do with it. Here's a little mock-up of how the studio could look...

One of the reasons we picked the new space was because it had two side rooms, which we want to turn into permanent studios. Having dedicated set-ups will make it way easier and more efficient to make things. We need to research some tech, install it, and test it all out before we move onto something really big like Retry: Elden Ring. But once that's all in place, it'll make big projects like that much easier to produce.

We want to share this process with you. So we’re going to be filming monthly behind-the-scenes video diaries detailing this process, which we’ll be releasing on the Early Access tier from September onwards. We want patrons to feel much more involved in what we’re doing behind the scenes, which will include sweet shots of us doing some cable management. Phwoar.

The Next Course

But before we start all that, we wanted to christen the new place and have something to work on while we figure out what to do with the studio.

So we came in last week, set-up a little temporary shooting space, and filmed Retry: The Delicious Last Course. We had a lot of fun returning to that game after nearly 5 years – how on earth has it been that long? – and testing Rory’s parrying skills at a whole new level. 

We’ll have more to share in the weeks ahead, but for now here’s a little glimpse of the set.

New Merchandise

We’ve only released two new T-shirts over the last couple of years, because we didn’t feel comfortable asking for more money during the pandemic. Things were tight for many and we were just grateful for your support as patrons.

But people have been asking for new merchandise, and we’ve been quietly working on new designs throughout that time. In fact, we’ve got 5 designs all ready to go. The first will be released next week and it’s called Finchy's Essentials.

It’s a bit of a nostalgic shirt, looking back at our Souls adventures before we head off on the next one. 

We’ll reveal the full design next week when the shirt goes on sale, but here's a little peek at front, which combines the name of our show framed within the old Prepare To Try shield. 

We collaborated on this shirt with BLOC, and the back is something very special... but more on that next week. And because so many of you have asked for it, we’re also going to be offering this as a hoody for the very first time.

Also, remember that survey asking for all your favourite weapons, bosses, and moments from all of our playthroughs? 

Yeah, you’ll get to know what that was all about very soon, and believe us, it’s definitely been worth the wait.
