That map markers idea is something you should 100% think more about. A sense of "look there's cool shit here, get here in your own way eventually" would just make the series much more focused while still having the sense of the open world

Gav if you get Rory to open his save of zelda on the map. You can actually view his whole journey and direction around the map to see exactly where he went and how long he played. It was an incredible update they added that was great to look at for myself.
