RKG: An Update from the Boys (Patreon)
Content
A lot has happened in the last two years.
Sometimes it feels like nothing has happened at all. We’re sure you feel the same.
When the pandemic reached the UK, we were about to go into production on some brand new projects, but with the covid situation rapidly worsening, we took the decision to stay at home before being told to by the government, and some of these projects never ended up seeing the light of day.
We put Retry: Sekiro on hold, thinking we’d be able to resume after a short hiatus.
And spent the months that followed live-streaming from our homes, building jigsaws, hosting pub quizzes, and watching films with you, our incredible community.
It wasn’t the ideal second year for RKG, and quickly that became the story of its third year, too. It was frustrating, but we adapted and continued the best we could, filming when restrictions would allow. Making it work as best we could.
Life wasn’t ideal, either. We weren’t immune to the events of the world: we struggled like everyone, and carried on the best we could. Inevitably, this led to a lot of reflection on what we wanted to do when things returned to ‘normal’.
We realised that some of our individual ambitions were slightly different, and we were honest with each other about them. Now seems a good time to reset and tell you about some of those changes. Don’t worry they’re not that big or scary, and are in fact, positive ones.
Firstly, we want to make Retry for many years to come, and strive towards making the best long-form Let’s Play series in the world. We’re editing Demon’s Souls right now, and it’s going to be the best produced series we’ve ever made.
We also want to make more SPOOKIES, more 3 Ways, more one-off videos – as well as entirely new and exciting shows together. There’ll be more videos on the channel this year than ever before, and we’re going to be in a place where we can communicate what’s coming much further in advance, too.
To make this possible, we’re making a few changes behind the scenes. RKG, the channel and Patreon, is going to be run primarily by Krupa and Gav. But Rory will remain a constant presence on the channel. We’ve already filmed Retry: Demon’s Souls, have another big shoot together booked in, and we’re already figuring out how we tackle Elden Ring together.
(Here's a little sneak peek at Retry: Demon's Souls which is currently being edited.)
So what’s going to change, really?
Honestly, for you, the RKG patrons and viewers, not much at all. We always want to be as transparent as possible. Genuinely, if we hadn’t written this post, no one would have noticed the change. In fact, with Covid hopefully behind us now, we’ll be able to produce more of the videos you love than ever before. There’ll be more series (featuring all three of us), with smaller gaps between them, alongside more ambitious and creative projects we’ve been wanting to make for a long time.
It’s a behind-the-scenes change in how we make things, not a change in what we make, or who we are. We love making videos together, and these changes will ensure that RKG will be around for many years to come.
Finally, we just wanted to say ‘thank you’ to all of our patrons, past and present, for supporting the things we make. Without your support, we wouldn’t be able to make the show in the way that we want. You remove the unwanted pressures that would affect its quality.
We’re excited to start a new chapter for RKG, and share with you all the things we’ve been working on. It’s going to be a big year.
