In case any of you were wondering why I've been on a soapbox complaining about rendering times and artifacts/issues with renders, I made this comparison video to show the difference between realtime screen recording of the Battlefields timecode show vs. a 12 hour rendered movie in Capture.

My biggest issue is that there is actually parts of this show that simply do not even show up in the rendered snapshot (the last drop being the most noticable part). These are the same exact cues, same show. Same everything.

I love Capture. I've been using it forever and I think it is the best value software out there, but there really needs to be some improvements to the video rendering process. I reached out to them and it seems like they are taking my comments and suggestions pretty well.

@christian can you explain how you draw on VW and after this use capture to previz?

Christian Jackson

Hey Christiano. Unfortunately, with the current version of Capture, there is no way to exchange lighting fixture positions and patch information going from VWX to Capture. You can go from Capture to VWX more easily.... since you can turn the 3D geometry of the exported DWG from Capture into lighting devices. Capture 2021 will probably have GDTF integration, which will hopefully make this process easy both ways.

Interesting. Are you running NVME cards? L8 has been pretty good to me. It does drop frames when I was running an SSD so when you do multiple records to simulate a multi camera edit, the T/C doesn't quite sync up. Converting to NVME cards, I'm dropping maybe 4 or 5 frames throughout a 6 minute sequence. Still annoying slightly annoying, but easier to line up in the edit.
