As an Italian, I've never heard the word "moppina" XD Where'd you get it from?

Neil Kohney

I've always heard it as Italian American slang for like a dirty dishrag. sometimes just said "moppeen". Some people on insta are saying it's a genuine southern Italian word, but spelled mappina. I dunno! The truth is that the fine people of italy have a slight reputation in the webcomic community for getting a lil' worked about about any italian words or dishes or geography or whatever used in comics. You always got your eyes peeled for inauthenticity lol. so it can be fun to intentionally throw in Italian nonsense, and let the sparks fly. one thing that hasn't been mentioned in the comments so far (that I've seen, at least) is my use of va bene. My understanding is that it means like "sure". which I thought was a funny response to "dad's gonna get a new heart". but maybe I used it wrong. My Italian is reeeeeeeeeal spotty

I mean, each region and sometimes each town has its own words, so it could certainly be...moppeen sounds like something i've heard before, which would basically be a slap (probably because a slap is kinda like a dirty dishrag in the face). And from a quick google search, it's also a brand of slippers. Va bene means sure indeed, and your use of it fits perfectly your comic style

yeah, my grandma was a first generation immigrant, and spoke Italian. but only what she called "the dialect". seems like there's a lot of regionality to the dialect. but yeah, overall I wasn't too concerned with being accurate. mostly just wanted it to seem silly
