Happy Halloweeeeen! I hope that anyone that’s celebrating it out and about have a great and safe night.

I don’t know if any of you is familiar with the 90s anime called “Nightwalker: The Midnight Detective”, but it’s one of those anime series that basically has like a handful of episodes and just sort of rushes through the story a bit, mid-season they change the animation company and so on.

Anyway, this character, Shido, always reminded me of Louis from the Vampire Chronicles book series. You know, mopey vampire, refusing to kill humans for sport or food, etc. But more than anything, I used to burn the Opening song “Gessekai” to the ground. It was so good, and Atsushi Sakurai’s voice was so mesmerizing to me as a kid. So I thought, It’s spooky season and he’s a vampire, I love him let’s do this. I tried doing a more anime-ish style for him, it was supposed to be like a cool childhood memory thing… and then the 19th happened. That voice that had always been so smooth and mesmerizing to me, that literally lived rent-free inside my brain, was gone.

Atsushi Sakurai died on October 19th. So instead of this being a simple “childhood memory” post, I wanted to honor that voice from that super cool anime intro, that I as a dorky kid loved so much.
