HAHA! You all thought we had the “cure for internet cancer,” seriously?! You’re all so gullible!

Anyway, here’s the Something Unlimited: Rebuilt demo we told you we’d release later this month. There’s a PC/Mac version and the first ever mobile version of SU.

To make this abundantly clear: SU’S DEVELOPMENT WILL NOT SLOW OR PAUSE! SU: REBUILT IS BEING CREATED IN TANDEM! The old version will continue to have content added to it and be the primary version until SU: Rebuilt catches up to it. (More on timelines can be found below.)

(Downloads are available at the bottom of this post. Admitting to playing the demo will be                                              taken as admittance of reading this post.)

What to Expect

PLEASE TEMPER YOUR EXPECTATIONS ACCORDINGLY!

This is a VERY rough demo. It’s more of a proof-of-concept than anything – so don’t go freaking out over jump cuts, text animation bugs, etc. We’re well aware it’s not a perfect, polished final product. It’s not supposed to be. It’s just meant to give you an idea of what you can come to expect from the Rebuilt version.

You can currently play through the game’s intro, getting your choice of the three starter heroines, then capture the other two and see/unlock all three’s Glamour Slam content. You can also hire the starting villains to have a better chance at capturing the other two starter heroines and send those villains out on cash heists.

It may not feel like much, but there are A LOT of changes to discover in SU: Rebuilt. And we’d really appreciate as much feedback as humanly possible.

Why the Hell are We Actually Doing This?

Honestly, to free up SR7’s time without sacrificing - and potentially speeding up – SU’s progression.

Fungus has treated GG extremely well, but it creates a lot of issues during development that honestly shouldn’t even be issues to begin with. Frankly, the game outgrew Fungus a LONG time ago.

SU isn’t built with modern tools by modern standards though. And because it’s built in Fungus, without any actual source code, the only way to eliminate those issues is to rebuild SU from scratch – sprite by sprite, line by line.

We’ve discussed and debated doing this for the better part of 8 months, and it was a large reason why we took our trip to Florida to meet Locke in person and talk shop in March.

The Rebuild’s Dev Timeline

We weren’t exaggerating when we said in our April 1st post that SU: Rebuilt would be caught up later this year.

What you see in the demo today wasn’t even started until mid-March. (Locke note: And honestly, I kinda slacked off during the first week-and-some-change of April because I was was overly confident. XD) The demo you see right now is about 3 – 4 weeks of work.

What you don’t see, is that it’s built in a way that actually speeds up development the further it goes. In addition, even creating new scenes with entirely new characters and art takes a small fraction of the time it takes in Fungus.

That being said, 4 years’ worth of content is A LOT to go through. And the dialog isn’t even readily available. Locke has to go through the entire game scene-by-scene, frame-by-frame, line-by-line and transcribe everything.

On top of that, we still don’t even fully know exactly what all the new quality of life changes/additions will entail. New ideas are being pitched regularly, and if we’re going to rebuild it from scratch then we might as well take the time to do it right with all the new bells and whistles it can benefit from.

TLDR; We’re confident it’ll be caught up later this year, but we don’t know exactly when. Right now, we’re estimating Fall, but it may be Winter.

Now’s THE Time for Feedback

Has part of SU been grinding your gears? Got a quality of life idea or feature? Now’s the time to tell us. We’re not saying we’re going to take on every complaint or idea – or even any of them – but we will listen and seriously consider them all at the very least.

Although please test out the demo beforehand. Like we said before, there are A LOT of changes to discover – some of which may already answer some of your concerns. (Locke Note: Also please actually read the intro-ending text and not just skim through it. That’ll probably answer some concerns/complaints too.)

SU: Rebuilt Updates

No. There will not be regular updates. We may talk about its progress on occasion and MAYBE – if you don’t annoy us to hell and back – we’ll release another playable update or two before it’s caught up.

BUT WE MAKE NO PROMISES!

This is just us proving that the SU: Rebuilt project is in fact real and keeping our word about releasing a demo later in April (April 29th is still April! XP)

We really hope this news in general pleases a lot of our fans, both patron and non-patron alike, and helps prove our commitment to growing into a proper game studio.

And a special thanks to our patrons – $1 and $50+ dollar alike – without whom none of this would be possible.

Thanks for reading and enjoy,

Weeeeeeell shit...I hope my terminal internet cancer doesn't kill me before I can play the full SU:Rebuilt 🤣

Anonymous

Well, drag and drop is more comfortable imho.\

Anonymous

Is There more sex scene?

Anonymous

Turn the cheats on please. I don't mind testing it but I refuse to grind like crazy to even move forward slightly.

Lemming

"We’re confident it’ll be caught up later this year"...just wow. Only this sentences shows me how much faster this is. I mean we are talking about 4 years of content rewriten in like 8 month. Yeah okay it is only coding and no drawing, but I mean that is still fast! I think that was the right decision and I wish you good luck with that!

Wild Bill

Wow, I really like all of the UI changes. So far I haven't noticed any that I would call bad ones. Regarding gameplay changes, one I would suggest is reconsidering how taking a heroine from the cells to the clubs and back costs the better part of a million dollars. Also, I'll restate that if it's at all possible, a Linux build would be greatly appreciated.

Anonymous

I'm personally not a fan of not being able to drag and drop. It was faster but it seems like a major improvement. Not a fan of the fatigue system and I preferred being able to assign the performances than watch them if I choose to. I liked being able to set up the brothel and club performances that coming back to watch them if I choose to.

Deadbrother

It seems extremly promising !

gunsmokegames

What is exciting, is the target has moved forward (closer) as development has progressed.

waffel

I second that, a Linux build would be greatly appreciated! The rest is true too!

Dream71

Skidaddle Skidoodle you still Cancer~~ , well lets hope everything work out nicely.

Nice demo, although cheats will be apreciated on next releases i thought money earnings were high enough not to need them (at least the money cheat).

I realize this is a tech demo, but the graphical design seems all over the place, starting with the fonts, ending with the phone thing. New controls feel weird, but it may just be difficult for me getting used to new stuff.

gunsmokegames

We really wanted to show you guys what we are doing, as well get feedback. Thanks for the input.

Ner'rull

OK, I think that you also thank it for the $ 1 supporters and do not blame them outside like others. Thicker plus point. For the future to show and test a demo cheats important or at the beginning a lot of money with the information that it will become less later. I am absolutely no friend of things that you have to repeat x times. The newly used interface in the club and elsewhere I do not like at all, since you have to blindly click through, in the old user interface you could be your darling whether heroine or villain. Choose more targeted. To catch that by choosing heroine and clicking orders blindly I dont find very user friendly. You can not say much about the demo because you've seen so far only in the Strip Club and Lex Corp just in the Labs and the Central where you can not do much. Man can only complain that there is no cheat option as some have already mentioned and say like the new user interface I like the previous where we could see the heroines and villains best. As you said, you do not notice a lot of what we see in the demo as a game. Think it was more work to show that to us. I suppose you can only let the grils dance, if you build it up. Upgrading money will cause no change so I could not see. Oh interesting idea to have more orders executed. But as I said a field where you can see the villains I like better. However, this is only my opinion. if it does not help you apologize. Sorry it's so much talk

Wild Bill

I just remembered something else I've been meaning to ask for, and this is the right time I guess; can we get more than the three save slots in the new version? Three really isn't enough if you want to have one slot for each henchwoman, of which there will be at least six (assuming no more henchwomen are added). Ten is a nice round number, but you can't really have too many.

Mr A

Mobile version is really great. I would even leave some things without transitions or make transitions smaller.

Anonymous

I'm sure its not likely to be viable, but I would GREATLY like to see a chatlog/rewind feature. I've double clicked more times then i could count which leaves me with the choice: Do I restart the game to see that one page of dialog that i missed or just hope it doesn't really matter.

Anonymous

I don't see why you need one for each henchwoman when they are interchangeable, but I second more save slots and add the option to save manually instead o autosaves.

gunsmokegames

Thanks for the input, we will be reviewing all requests with the team to see what can an will be added. Unfortunately we need the rebuild to be caught up ASAP to free up resources. So the addition of complex or time consuming features might not be possible.

gunsmokegames

Save system will be revamped, and will NOT be using the registry. As for slots we will discuss the possibility of adding more.

gunsmokegames

This was more to show some of the changes, and an all new Android build. Cheats will be in the full version.

gunsmokegames

Cheats will 100% be in the caught up version. In fact the transition should be seamless outside you guys having to start a new playthrough.

looks good

Wild Bill

@RedKnight You would want a slot for each henchwoman because a lot of henchwoman interactions are non-repeatable events. If you want to see how the Star Labs raid or the search for Killer Frost go with a different henchwoman, you have to start a new game.

Wild Bill

It's a shame it wasn't built in an existing VN engine to begin with. I don't know about the animations, but everything else could have been made in Ren'Py and all those features would have required zero dev time.

Kojack

This is the one thing I would suggest too. SU is heavily text-based after all. It would change a lot to be able to be able to do so.

gunsmokegames

This is like the argument over BMW and Benz, or Intel or AMD. Yes both are good, but with Unity we are not pigeon holed when looking to the future. Sure right now it seems like a good fit, but for the future of GG there is no argument the Unity provides the most upside.

No Escaping Destiny

The last time I played this there was no way to tell if content for a character had come to the end or not. It made me spend extra days for no reason often.

Wild Bill

Unless the future of GG involves action games, I'm kind of sceptical about that. And regardless, the game you're making *now* is in large part a VN, which lacks a boatload of features you'd get for free with a proper VN engine. When you describe something basic like a history log as something complicated or time consuming, that tells me you picked the wrong engine. Less Intel vs. AMD and more Intel vs. Nvidia, and for rendering you picked Intel.

Thanks a lot for the mobile version

Anonymous

hi what version is the last version of the game?

JBlume

Totally hot story and artwork. You've probably already working on this, but a way to see the prices of items and upgrades before pushing the button would save a lot of hassle. Thanks for considering this :)
